1000yd 6.5x47 Lapua pd gun?

You might want to consider using something like a Vais brake instead of concentrating on building extra heavy. I've got them on several of my rifles, up to & including a 15.25lb straight 284 built around a M700 LA with a 28" bbl. The brake allows me to see hits on steel target as close as 600yds. with a 16x scope even with heavy S175MK & B180VLD loads. Works fine shooting off a bench, but with ports all the way 'round, it throws up a lot of dirt & trash shooting prone. Still, there are lots of brakes available with only side ports to avoid the dust signature problem.

Personally (I've got three 6.5x47s and have built several Dashers), I'd go with a Dasher for 1000yd. varmint shooting, and stick with the 105 AMax. Doubt there's going to be a bullet better-suited to giving the combination of BC, accuracy, & expansion on a critter as small as a PD.

2. MICMILLAN, OR BILL SHEHANE STOCK

My only change in your build would be to have Joel Russo build your stock for you. His stock inletting is the very best machine work that I have seen period! Ask anyone that has one of his stocks and ask them about the glove tight fit of the actions in his stocks. Shehane and McMillian are fabulous stocks, but they are also not constructed to the tolerances that Joel accomplishes with his stocks. Check out Russoriflestocks.com. I would never own another bench stock from anyone else!

I like the tiger maple that is on his site. I do like a 3in forearm and the bottom of the butt of the stock flat as well. To me it just helps the stock track better in the bags. One of the reasons I really like the Shehane stocks the tracker stocks work very well. I had considered Micmillan just because of their reputation. I'll have to do more reserch on the Joel Russo stocks. I am also considering the Ballard F class stock from Precision Rifles and tools. I agree with Ballard's Idea of the longer fore end to support the heavy long barrel. Well It's what he stated in his article on his .284. It makes since in theroy anyway. Thanks for the link to Joel Russo's site.

I did give the thought of a break. I do agree with you, and my only reason for not wanting a break is I've had 2 guns with breaks on them, and the muzzle blast was a lot more than I just like to have to deal with. Even with good quality ear muffs I still had to use ear plugs and muffs to shoot either rifle comfortably.

The Dasher isn't out of the race yet. Like I said above I'm almost committed to the 6.5x47. The only thing that is still holding me back from the Dasher is having to blow the brass out.

Joel does all types of stocks. He does a great many bench type stocks as well. He does not promote them as much though. Give him a call. His work is all over these days as his reputation is growing fast. He does a few things that no one else does that truly separates him the others that make his actions fit incredibly well vs anyone that I have seen.

deadlyswift,

I had a BAT M with a 6BRX 17 lb 600/1000 yd light gun. The action was way too big for a small round. I have a B now 1.55" action. This action would handle about any barrel. I would fit the action with the round, and add weight some where else. I friend of mine is killing PD with a Dasher at nearly 1400yds. with 7tw barrel and 115 gr Berger's. A 8tw and 105 would do the job.
