Steyr M III professional?

Anyone have any experience with these rifles?

I have located one in 25-06 and am interested, but do not know much about them. The stock is made of plastic and looks cheap like an older ABS type of material. Rifle looks well built with a hammer forged barrel. Any experiance with the accuracy or other concerns with this model of Steyr?

Know one gent who has one in .338 mag. and loves it. Very accurate (for a hunting rig) from what I have seen from his handloaded ammunition. Have not seen any factory ammo groups though.

I had a .270 M Steyr Manlicher that was built in the '80's. It had the best magazine system I have ever had... mags were made of Cycolac indestructible plastic. I wish I had it back. It was a quality piece that always shot ~ 3/4" moa (with handloads) despite the full length stock.

I have a Steyr M Professional 30-06 from the mid 80s. The gun has a plastic stock that the OP describes. The stock on my gun is designed for use of the iron sights on the gun, so it needs comb enhancement for a proper cheek weld for scope use. The gun is a 3/4 moa shooter if you defeat the springboard forearm. The SSG's of the same vintage used the same stock material but with a beefier stock and performed better than the Professional.

Had a SSG in 308 shot very well for a box gun I did bed it shot sub MOA out to 500 yds. with hand loads there a great hunting gun
