step by step guide to 6PPC case prep

I must have been really tired when I answered your post. My bushing reference should have been .257. Some years back, I was shooting less neck tension, and my good friend Del Bishop (unfortunately no longer with us) told me that he and a shooting buddy (They both were exceptional shooters and his buddy still is.)had found that they got better results with more neck tension. I tried it, and it seemed like that was the case for me as well, so until recently, when I have cut my necks thinner, I loaded all my ammunition with the .257 bushing. This is not to say that it is better, just that I stayed with it, because at one time it seemed like it worked better. Recently, since I have gone to a neck clearance of about .0025 (total) I have switched to a .256 bushing. Sorry about the mistake.

I also have a .262 neck. Just seated my first bullet tonight and found the jam. I'm using Sierra Matchkings for firing forming and OD of a loaded round measures .2602 using some pre-turned brass I bought. When I turn more myself I will probably turn them down slightly more.

N133 is the powder I will be using.

For clarification, the size of the bushing has nothing to do with OD of the loader round....just determines the neck tension. Correct? I have bushings in .267, .268 and .269 to work with.

If your bushings are larger .267"/.268"/.269" than your neck chamber size of .262", how do you expect to apply neck tension to your bullet?

You need bushings in the .257"/.258"/.259" range to be effective. The bushings must be SMALLER than the OD of the loaded round in order to apply tension. A .257" bushing would apply .003" of tension, .258"/.002" of tension and .259"/ .001" of tension.

Please tell me the .267"/.268"/.269" figures are typing errors.

As you can see, both Boyd and I use .257" or .256" bushings. VV N133 likes a lot of tension, especially with the thinner necks.

I blame Boyd for my typos!!! He got it wrong first. I corrected it....yes .257, .258 and .259!

Bozo - Boyd spend close to two hours on the phone with me getting me started. Great guy to talk to. Thanks again Boyd.

Otter,
I know that, he helps me all the time, fdshuster is another great guy and a wealth of knowledge. I just bought a 6ppc off forum member, it is a Bat dual port, I am a long range guy, and that is what I bought the rifle for, going to re barrel it in 6brx 1:8 for a 11 lb 1K rifle but it comes turn key for 6ppc so I think I will learn to load for it and just make a switch barrel rifle out of it. Best of luck to you Otter with your new endeavors ;)
Wayne.
