6PPC shells

Gday,
Im able to by some fired 6PPC shells from one bloke but im buying a rifle from another, so the shellls are not from the gun im buying. Would i be able to use the shells in the rifle im buying if i put them through a redding 6PPC small base die? And they both have .262 necks.

Not recommended, with the emphasis on Not.

Buy some new brass and all the ills associated with trying to make something fit in a strange chamber go away.

There's a profusion of different 6PPC .262" reamers [different lead angles, different freebore, et cetera] so any one of them matching the brass that you have ... is slim.

Limit the aggravation and futility associated with this type venture. Acquire some new brass. :)

I don't understand why it is not a good idea? He is just buying empty brass. If he sizes it and it fits in the chamber of the rifle, wouldn't it then fireform to the dimensions of the new chamber? I don't see this being any different than starting with virgin .220 Russian brass.

The only potential problem I see is if the chamber is cut at 1.500 and the used brass is too long. If he trimmed them all back to 1.490 that would avoid that problem.

Let me know what I'm missing.

+2, buy some new brass.

I'll take all your old brass that can't possibly fit in your new rifle and you have to buy new because of it, the reason it WILL work in my rifle is because I own a body die and a f/l die, after I size it and fire it in my chamber it will fit perfectly, then I will anneal it and get many more firings ;) thanks.

So Bozo,
What your saying is if i put them through a small base die ( thats all i have at the moment), i should be alright?

No I am saying to run them through a full length die or a body die then neck size, trim if needed and fire in your chamber, you should be good to go. I might buy new for matches but for spotter, foulers, practice, vermin, or whatever, I sure wouldn't through it away,...cheers ;)

"Throw away brass!" Never!

I throw away brass only after it has been run over, gotten crushed by mistake, or some act of God. Can't imagine a situation where FL sizing and annealing won't work with cartridges of same caliber. Wayne has it spot on.

When any of you throw your brass away, keep me in mind. I take donations.
