Steel Prarie Dogs ***with pics***

News for 2012.

New targets, rimfire matches and match fees.

The new centerfire targets are here. Dino and I spent a day (the whole thing) getting them all welded up and ready to go. We made 16 of them just to make sure we have spares.

The new centerfire target is about 7 inches tall and has an average width of 4.5 inches. So yes, it got harder. Dino and I made some design changes and came up with a pretty solid target. It also uses two springs in case one breaks it will keep working. They are also cut from 1/2 thick AR-500 so we can get some more use out of them. No more bolts are exposed so they cant get shot off. I will post pics soon.

And rimfire... I have had enough people asking over the years about rimfire targets to make me finally do something. The stumbling block was target presentation and how to run multiple shooters on the same target. It took me a bit but I might have figured out a possible solution. 10 targets from 35-150 (maybe further) yards run just like the normal match. One shot per target hit or miss. The target shapes and sizes will be varied. Some IHMSA shaped like chickens and rams, Sportsmans Team Challenge diamonds and stars, baby IPSC targets, ect. Plan on the smallest target being about 2 MOA and the biggest being about 3.5-4 MOA. All rimfire rifles will shoot on their own relay to keep the spotter from going crazy. The divisions will be bolt/manual and semi.

Rimfire will be incorporated in the next few months to give you time to drag out that old model 52 or 40X or yank the peep sights off that Anschutz.

Match Fee Increase? Still holding steady at $10 per gun.

Chris from 3gunstuff made this video at the last Pueblo PD match.

It started out pretty cold (15-20f) but warmed up nice by 2:00 or so...

Many thanks to Jim C. Sr for bringing donuts to everyone on the morning relay. That little jolt of sugar helped.

The new targets are harder to be sure as they are about 2.5 inches shorter, but they are about .75 inches wider.

Hope to see everyone next month. Speaking of next month, dont forget that the PD match is 17 March and the Tactical Rifle match is the following day.

Results just went out, let me know if you didnt get them.

what part of the country in Colorado are you fellas shooting this competition? Looks like a ton of fun and I'd love to join if it's close enough to where I live in eastern Montana : )

Thanks

Pueblo Colorado is plenty close... Shall I save you a bench next month?

This Saturday, be there.

Sunday is the Tactical Rifle Match. A busy weekend at the range for sure.

Hopefully next month we will be running the new rimfire targets.

Some pics from the afternoon match.

Despite some ugly winds out of the west in the morning, everyone seemed to have fun. The winds got better in the afternoon, but it still was not a pretty day. Only a handful of clean runs for the day, none of them being in the morning match.

No official start date for us going up to the 600 yard range. Still some work to be done before we can go up there. Most likely January is when it will be ready for us.

Match results just went out, let me know if you didnt get them.

Hope to see everyone next month.

Lots of shooters made the trek to Pueblo today.

The perfect score is still safe. Another 390 in the books. That makes around five to six 390s so far this year.

Scores just went out. Let me know if you didnt get them.

See you all in December.

If you want to shoot the match on 15 December, PLEASE email chris "at" 3gunstuff.com with your name and whether you want to shoot in the 9:00 or noon match before 5pm Friday.

Hope to see you there.

It was a pretty cool year of shooting. The new targets are working out fine. Despite their smaller size, the scores have not gone down. However, the perfect score of 400 is still out there.

Not exactly sure when we will make the move up to the 600 yard range and add rimfire targets, but hopefully soon. I have some leave scheduled after Christmas and I will be spending it on a Bobcat getting the 600 ready for us.

In addition to moving up there, the format of the afternoon matches will change. The morning match will remain unchanged and the afternoon match round count will also be unchanged.

Please remember that if someone is downrange setting up targets, no handling of rifles at all in any way shape or form.

Lastly, please remember this match is set up and run by volunteers. Please consider helping with set up and tear down in addition to helping during the match. Watching someone set up all the targets while you wait for them to hurry up and finish isnt cool.

Have a good Christmas and I hope everyone finds a nice new happy suppressor in their stocking and a new gun under the tree.

The results went out earlier tonight. Let me know if you didnt get them.

See you next year.

It turned out to be a really nice day. It was breezy, but mostly out of the south.

Try as hard as everyone could, nobody could turn out one last perfect score. Tim K came close. Very close.

The new scoresheets worked like a charm. Mike D is the man.

Next month we move up to the 600. So the high score for the match remains at 400 set by Brent *and* his daughter. In all the years of us shooting this match, only 2 perfect scores.

For a couple months we will run a morning and an afternoon PD match. I will let you all know exactly when the afternoon match will change. As soon as it does, the 9:00 match will be PD Targets and the 12:00 will be various sizes at random ranges.

The 9:00 match will cap at 25 shooters. So be sure to reply to Chris and make a reservation.

The 22 rimfire matches will start within a couple months. Depending on what you all want, they will be held at both the 9:00 and 12:00 matches.

Dont forget to mention to the PWSA President (Chris Skarmas) and other PWSA board members how much you appreciate us being able to shoot these matches at Pueblo. Without their support, these matches could easily go away.

See you all next weekend for the Tactical Rifle Match.

Dont forget this Saturday is the Pueblo PD match and Sunday is the Magnum match in Raton.

Both the Prairie Dog and Tactical Rifle matches for August 2013 are cancelled. I am hoping to be able to resume both matches in Sept.

Sorry.

Game on next Saturday. We will be on the 425 for a while.

We will also be using our new rimfire targets. Have zeros out to 150-175 or so.
