Steel Prarie Dogs ***with pics***

Hear what? lol. Some of the light bullets just made a small puff of dust that the wind quickly blew away when they hit near the bottom of the dog. I honestly didn't see some of the hits that were called but it's shooters advantage so I wasn't going to argu. I'd rather not spot if given the choice.
I just look at it as a fun shoot and another way to get more practice in.
I had a good time even if the wind did fool me. With 300yds of burms and only the last 125 open I could have held dead on and connected with a 123 Scenar at 3200. I couldn't see where I was hitting and that makes it hard to correct.
Another lesson learned from shooting small steels.

I showed up a little late, but enjoyed watching none the less. I will make sure I get there a little earlier next time.

Was the guy shooting the AI chassis shooting the 6-284?

There were some shots that I honestly couldn't tell were hits while the sighter was calling them as hits. The small calibers and the wind made it hard to hear them.

And did it really last 4 hours?

Its set up for a show up and shoot type match. No real set start time.

The guy with the AI Chasis was the match winner shooting a 260 and 142s.

The 6-284 was a Remington 700 in a black and grey McMillan Anschutz stock that Charlie built in gunsmithing school 10-12 years ago.

With a 40X spotting scope the hits were easy to call. Its tough work spotting. As noted, in the event of a question, benefit to the shooter always.

I will bring my Kowa with a 20-60 eyepeice next match and leave it set up for people to use.

It did in fact last almost 4 hours from first shot till the last shot. Almost 800 rounds...

When most people missed the said it was because they held off too much. I forgot this and held off the 425 yard target and the bullet went right where the crosshairs were...

The match winner in the light gun division was shooting a plain jane 223 with 50 gn Noslers. He gave them a bit of wind, but never held completely off the target. He is also one of the best rifle shooters and gunsmiths I know.

This sounds like a bunch of fun to me. I'm planning on coming down in May.

Looking forward to meeting you. Be sure to introduce yourself as TiGuy from 6mmbr.

See you then.

I completely forgot to post pics. My memory is perfect, but short. TC the IDPA Mall Ninja took the pics.

Lets start this off with a view of the Heavy Gun match winners backside. Shooting a 260. I think TC might have a man crush on him...

Without a scorekeeper and spotters there would not be a match. Cant do it without them.

Hoser, looks like I found you on yet another board!

Looking forward to shooting the IMHSA and the Steel Dog match Saturday with you.

Are we still on for Wed. Steel Challenge?

One quick question.

Is 40 rounds all that we will need? Need to load some up tonight and I want to make sure that I will have enough.

Yup. 40 rounds is all you need. If you want to shoot the match again, bring another 40.

Charlie, see you Saturday morning bright and early.

Everything is set to go for the 19 July. I am out of town till the 18th, but plan to be there bright and early to get it all set-up and going by lunch time Saturday.

But then again maybe California will completely burn down before then and I can just come home early. Over 90,000 gallons of red goop from our plane alone.

Hoser:

One cool picture. Unfortunately for a bad situation at the time. Haven't been following the fires but hope they are now contained/extinquished.

Fun match today. Mild winds, but switchy. Not the holwing winds of matches past.

Not a lot of shooters today, maybe the forecast temps over 100 scared them away.

Results were emailed out a while ago. Let me know if you didnt get them.

Hope to see some of you next month.

I wanted to shoot my 5.56x42 AR but my load developement isn't quite complete so I'm shooting a new .243.
I'm getting 3500+ out of a 20" 5.56x42 using 55 Noslers but what I really want to use is the 75Amax at 3000+. It's raining here in PW now it would be nice if overcast without the normal 15mph winds tomorrow.

Awesome weather today. Switchy winds and lots of tall grass made for some tough shooting resulting in a 2 way tie in heavy gun. Although its not listed as a formal division on the scoresheet, it appears as though I dominated the newly formed BB-Gun division.

The match high score of 33 hits was tied again today.

Hope to see some of you guys next month.

We live in Alamosa and would like to know more about your matches in Pueblo? Thank you e-mail me at jeepbailey@hotmail.com

Awesome weather today. As usual, shooters are getting better. Today gave us a new high score of 360 shot by Mike K and his 260. Going 28 hits straight helped.

First time Steel PD Shooter Justin shows up with a borrowed gun, mine) and shoots a 305. Gotta be some sort of record.

Results went out last night. Let me know if you didnt get them.

Thanks for making it an enjoyable match this month and all season long. I will be doing it again in 2009. See you in April. Now go load some ammo. I have about 1,000 22BR to get loaded...

Justins write up of the match can be found here.

Dang, this is the first competitive format I've ever come across that really appeals to me. Wish we had something similar here in Utah.

Are guns with muzzle breaks allowed? Both my 6 dasher and 6x47L are so fitted as I like to see the doggy go POOF

Anything goes. The only restrictions are bullet weight and rifle weight.

Speaking of, we are doing it again this Saturday.
