State Restrictions on Mail Order Ammo

living in a free state with my head in the sand i guess. i had no idea the restrictions were metastatic. is this 'for real'?:

" ... Also, all ammo sales are final. If you live in CA, or NY your shipping address must be an FFL address, if it is not your order is subject to refund. A FOID, FPID or license must be emailed to orders@milehighshooting.com if you live in CT, DC, IL, MA, or NJ. ..."

btw, i have no info, history, or orders with milehighshooting, just noted this while researching some rimfire ammo.

The way Washington DC is headed, the Old Republic is no longer " The United States", but is now the disunited states. As for the restrictions on ammunition in some, the on-line sale must go to an FFL dealer and you pick it up from them, after some more paper work for government information and record.
This virus is spreading to other states, in time, as long as the likes of the present administration is in power in the Senate/Congress and Oval Office and the likes of them.
But also remember some companies, with all the restrictions and hoops needed for some states, will not even sell or ship to them, so you lose there also.

Yes, it's true. Here in CA, all ammo sold (legally, that includes person to person) has to have a background check done through a "licensed ammunition vendor" (someone registered through the state as being certified to sell ammo.) That means that all ammunition coming into the state has to go to an ammo vendor, lest the purchaser be guilty of "illegally importing ammunition". They also took the easy route, and are using the firearms registry database for the background check. If you do not have a firearm registered to an address in the state, the check costs more ($19 vs $1), and may take up to 2 weeks to come back (and that check is good for one transaction.)

Couple of other things to note:
1) The state, in adopting these regs, did not anticipate that non-CA residents may want to purchase ammunition here. There is no provision in the laws for out-of-state residents to legally purchase ammunition.
2) Those who are issued firearms, and do not own one (many police officers fall under this category) will not be able to purchase doing the quick check.
3) For CA residents leaving and returning, you can take all the ammo you want out of state, but you can't return with it (at least not without jumping through hoops.) That would be "importation of ammunition" (whether handloaded or purchased) and is not legal. I don't know if receipts and such will bypass this, as it's never been contested, as far as I know. You can break down ammo and bring it in as components, as there is no ban on anything except loaded ammo.

Have had to have my FOID on file with all the major sellers. Natchez, Midway, etc. Can't possess ammo in the state without it.

Firearms are registered at time of purchase (In CA handguns and long guns are treated roughly the same.) You provide proof of residence. So the firearm gets registered to you at the address you provide.

The quick ammo check bounces the purchaser against info in that database (which gets weird if you've moved, as you have to supply the address you were at at the time of purchase, rather than where you live now.) If you've never registered a firearm in the state, you have to do the not-so-quick check, where they look up federal records.

NYS is trying to roll out a massive list of new reactionary gun restrictions with many distributors no longer shipping here, even to an FFL. I think the best thing we have going for us is that the liberal NYC morons that write the bills couldn’t roll out a pizza dough let alone roll out a constitutionally sound piece of legislation with thought out plans for implementation. They’ve literally set themselves up for failure through a lack of state resources to carry their plan out as well as impending lawsuits. I believe the good Lord let it happen for a reason. It might take a few years, but it will only strengthen our rights in the end.

And if you notice those new NY laws make it a felony for anyone breaking them. Honest citizens are being made and treated like criminals and punished, all the while the state is letting the actual criminals and illegals get away with breaking all the laws and even murder and other criminal acts.
