Starting to load 9mm.

I was at Gun Fair yesterday, 9mm ball 17.99/50. Cheaper as you up the volume/reduce the packaging. Hard to reload at that price with jacketed bullets. I have been reloading 9mm, Autocomp and Hp38 has worked well. I have been loading at +p with 115,124 xtp(not practice ammo).
I’d buy them. I added up my reloading costs and got $16.50 for 50, using 10 cent primers and 5 cents for brass. I gave all my 9mm brass away last year. Go figure!
I looked at several online sites and they were all at $30/50 box so I ordered dies and components. So be it. There’s nothing worth watching on TV anyway.

147 grain, Hornady, JHP's at, 985-1,000 FPS ( a near Max., Predator, Hunting / protection, Load ) with, 6.7 Grains of, AA# 7, "Thrown" from, a Lil' Dandy, with,.. a "Modified",. Rotor #6.
For, Lighter weight, "Plinkers",.. Win 231,.. "Thrown" !
I AVOID,.. ALL,.. Flake style Powders, Like Unique, due to "Bridging" ( poor, Inconsistent, "Thrown" Charges !! ).

Thanks for that. I’m only looking for a 6” group practice round to build muscle memory and diminish the flinch I experience from lack of practice. I bought a new Glock 43x I want to break in as a carry piece. It’s a little gun for my hands but light and easy to conceal.
Thinking back on this now, that was the suggestion for 38 Special bullets. Does the same apply for 9mm I’m not for sure.

You should try Berry's Bullets 147 gr FLAT POINT. They're plated and they're the most accurate bullets in my 9mmParabellum pistols. On the other hand, for whatever reason, I can't get the Berry's 147 gr Round Nose to shoot as well as their Flat Point.
I bought the hollow point as they work well in my 40.

I shot a LOT of semiwadcutters out of my 38, back in the day. I have a few shooters when I want that. My 9s are just bangers.

My favorite loads for 124 grain Hornady round nose FMJ is 4.1 grains of WST powder. For the 115 grain Hornady HAP bullets I use 4.5 grains of Clean Shot powder.

I never thought I would but I’m going to start loading for my 9s. I’ve always used factory rounds because they were so cheap. I’m down to 600 rounds and don’t want to burn them up in practice. I have 1000 plated 124 grain HP on the way. I have plenty of 231, Unique and AutoComp on hand but was wondering what the favorite powders are of guys that reload them.
Thanks in advance.
Josh
I'd recommend 4.0gr unique to let you get your bearings in pistol loading. Mid-level load, cycles well, and room for error if your powder charge measurement system isn't as good as you think it is.

As you get your taper dies set, and gain practice the sizing /seating / taper crimping adjust charge accordingly.

Accurate #5 is about the same as Unique. Used it to load .45acp .40s&w and 9mm. I liked Accurate #7 for 9mm the best. Accurate #2 is fairly fast burning and can‘t remember what it is close to. There are other powders out there better but that’s what I used to use for blasting rounds. Used Blue Dot with 115 JHP’s and they made for pretty hot loads back then.

Ah, thanks for that. Good points! I’ve been reloading for my pistols for 40 years and have fired tens of thousands of rounds. I was so into it, I built an 80 foot tunnel out of my basement to shoot in.I just never bothered with the 9 because they were so cheap. These days, not so much.

3.4g of Tight Group with a 124-130g is very, very accurate.

For self defense:

I load 7.6g of AA#7 all the way for 124-125g bullets, 1200 fps and very, very accurate, close to a max load.

Georges 130g HP cast is a very, very accurate Bullet with both of these loads and the bullets arrive just like the pictures look! George can send them in 4 different sizes, so slug your barrel and you want a bullet .001 over the size of your bore!
