Starting to load 9mm.

I load 124gr Berry round nose with Winchester 231 at 4.2-4.3 grains.... I also use lead data for plated bullets because like lead their normally .356 instead of .355 and build pressure like lead.... Just FYI I have loaded tens of thousands of the load with zero problems... On my crono it's a 980+fps load so it's easy on the gun and you... Just like normal don't trust data off the internet but you can find lead data on the Lyman manual.... Here's my exact load just in case you want to compare.....

4.2 or 4.3 grains of Winchester 231 and I believe the book data is 3.8 to 4.4 so it gives you plenty of room for error just in case.... Win 231 will completely fill the case if a double charge happens by mistake in 9mm which I love... I personally have found 4.1gr wasn't enough to make the brass fill the chamber so I personally wouldn't go below that...

What ever primer... What ever brass but all the same head stamp...

124gr Berry round nose bullet seated at 1.150 but now I think Winchester data has bumped it to 1.160.... I am not changing from 1.150 so that's what I load... Your COAL will of course be different for a hollow point...

All fired through Glock 19/26/43....

Of course work up what works for you...

but I’m going to start loading for my 9s
I'm sure you know this, but the 9mm is a tapered case. With a carbide die, lube isn't required, but sizing will be immensely easier if you lightly lube them. And it can keep the case from starting to pick brass and galling which leaves marks on the case.

I never thought I would but I’m going to start loading for my 9s. I’ve always used factory rounds because they were so cheap. I’m down to 600 rounds and don’t want to burn them up in practice. I have 1000 plated 124 grain HP on the way. I have plenty of 231, Unique and AutoComp on hand but was wondering what the favorite powders are of guys that reload them.
Thanks in advance.
Josh
Are you sure you wanna bend over to search for brass at this point. I went to revolvers for that reason. i got one of those cage gizmos brass pickerupers but didnt work where i shoot. i am thinking about getting the 1911s out again though

If you need some brass, I can mail it to you. Just PM me your address

You did me a favor not too long ago and I'd like to do the same.
I'd also recommend a Lee factory crimp die, it'll crimp and post-size to ensure smooth feeding. 9 tends to get various case bulges that this die irons out.

Yup! Bending over is getting harder! When the day comes that I think it’s too hard to pick up nickels lying on the ground.....throw some dirt on me cause I’ll be dead!
well sometimes i dont have a choice / the back just doesnt work- i did pick up a five gallon bucket plus of 9mm though.

I use Silhouette in all my autoloaders. I started using it when it was still called Winchester Action Pistol. When it was discontinued, Ramshot bought the formula. It burns cleaner at top pressures, but I have found practice loads from 380 to 45 with it. As they say, it flows like water through my Dillon, and I have shot thousands of 115, 124, and 147 coated bullets from S&S casting in 3-gun, action pistol, and steel challenge over the years. I used to buy 9mm at $5 a box, started using Hardcast at $9 a box, but at today's prices I can load premium HP's for plinking! Good luck on your latest endevour.

I put a Truglo green micro laser on the slide rail. A snap cap and I can work on finger/muscle memory trigger pull. Really shows you how finger and grip tension pushes or pulls the muzzle. Checked with a rangefinder last night, 234 yards perfectly visible green dot on a metal surface. May have to put it on my night rifle for coyote.

A couple years ago, I saw the writing on the wall and scooped up two 8's of HP-38 that I mixed with the 5-6 lbs of 231 I had on hand. That should hold me for a bit. I shoot it in 9mm, 38 Super, and my 45's.

In my Ruger LW Commander 9mm, shooting 122 grain .357" uncoated bullets....
3.4 - 953 fps
3.6 - 1007 fps
3.8 - 1039 fps
4.0 - 1079 fps
4.2 - 1115 fps

Same with coated 124 .356's....
3.4 - 906 fps
3.6 - 954 fps
3.8 - 991 fps
4.0 - 1026 fps
4.2 - 1059 fps

Put, a 9' x 9' Tarp on the Ground with, the edges rolled,.. inward or, propped, up with sticks, to catch, the Cases !
Works great, after, adjusting the Tarp a bit,.. after, the first couple of, Shots !
Just some "chit' you Learn, when you get,.. Older !

I still have enough, Cheap 115 / 124 gr. Ammo, to get me by for the next, 2-3 years.
I do hand load, the Hotter, 147 JHP load that, I mentioned in my post, earlier.

My grand daughter took my tarp for painting. (Artistic) Not painting walls like I need in my loading room! My range let's you pick up brass after matches. It is usually as good of condition as what I already shoot.
