9mm COL problem.

AI Overview

Measuring the "head to ogive" of a 9mm Luger round is crucial for handloading to ensure consistent and accurate seating depth
. The "ogive" is the curve of the bullet between the bearing surface and the nose, and variations in the ogive can significantly impact how the bullet contacts the rifling in the chamber, which affects accuracy.
Here's how you can measure head to ogive, often referred to as Cartridge Base To Ogive (CBTO):
Various tools are used for this measurement, including digital calipers and specialized bullet comparators. Measuring from the ogive provides a more reliable reference point for consistent seating depth compared to measuring the overall length, as the tip of the bullet can have variations.

I know of exactly zero pistol shooters doing this to their 9mm ammo.

If it fits in the mag and passes a plunk test, they shoot it.

I agree the plunk test is important. However feeding from the mag is equally as important. Load a dummy round and test feed from the mag. I load for a few Barsto barrels. They have tight chambers . For that reason I load all my 9mm with a Lee U- Die. Expand with Lyman M-Die. I also run a Mr. Bulletfeeder powder funnel on the 1050. Never crimp my 9mm. Chamber your dummy round to check for bullet setback .

What works in one may not work in another.
My sig 228 eats anything..
My m&p will not

Josh, make sure that his thumb is not riding the slide, It does not take much and make sure that it is oil up well. If it fit the mags, it should run.

Welcome to joys of pistol reloading. First there is no uniformity in bullet profiles so a 9mm 115 grain FMJ (or any other type) bullet from one manufacture may have a different ogive shape and hence length than another manufacturer. If seated to the same length there will be different volumes for powder under the bullet and with the same powder load the pressures will be different. The 9mm Lugar is very sensitive to this.

The pistols are also different. In 9mm you may have three inch barrel in one pistol and a five inch barrel in another. There is a huge difference in weight for the slide and spring rate for the recoil spring.

Without knowing the actual recoil energy of the round you will not know if it will work in different pistols other than the one that the load was developed for.

It sounds like the Glock is short stroking. The slide travel is sufficient to eject a spent casing but is not compressing the recoil spring enough to have sufficient energy to chamber a new round.
Thats what I was thinking too....
Short stroking and a lighter load than factory.
May need to bump up the powder a little bit to get them to work in the glock.
Or get a lighter recoil spring for the Glock.
I had a 1911 in 9mm and had several different springs for it for various loads
-----------
My target loads would not function well in other peoples 9mm.
(Thats one way to get people to quit asking you for ammo ;)
