Starting load 6.5x47

Dear 6.5x47 members ,

I am hoping to finish my rifle in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to crown and thread the muzzle this weekend. The stock should be back from the hydrodip place in another week or two. I have been scouring the errornet looking for starting loads for powders I have. The only one I can find is r15. My gut keeps telling me w760 for some reason. I also have varget , w748 , imr4350 , imr8208. I will be using 123smk to start with. Barrel length is ( provided I don't mess it up and have to cut any off , like the breach end ) 28 7/8". It's a Brux hv. A massive beast to say the least. 40 grs of w760 fills the case up to the bottom of the shoulder , I am thinking that is 85-90 % full. My throat is rather long so seating depth will more than likely be long too.

RL-15 is a really good choice. Lots of data available on the internet but as always start lower, some of these guys really push it. RL-15 is really good in this weight bullet.

Stay away from Win 760 unless you are hunting.. MOST (besides Ramshot Powders) ball powders are VERY temp sensitive... If you want to compete, use the MOST temperature stable powders you can find at your disposal. Whatever load data there is for RL-15 you can JUST ABOUT use for Varget too. RL-15 is fairly temp stable>>but NOT as stable as Varget... With 123's you should be able to top out "around" 38grs. of either Varget or RL-15.. So if you would "top-out" at about 38grs., start about 36.5 and you will be fine!....

I use Varget in mine as well. but not as much as 3dogs.
If you are talking competition, in my opinion the 130g Berger and Varget is the route to take.

Same here, 38.1 gr Varget under a 130 VLD with BR4s will flat out hammer in mine.
