Starline and Peterson 6br brass coming

I’ve contacted both of these companies.
Both will possibly be offering 6br the first quarter of 2019. I wouldn’t doubt there’s more companies working on the same thing. Bertram? Alpha? Hornady? ADG?

It will be interesting to hear how these stack up against the tried and true Lapua.
And Lapua being sold for $85ish right now.....at that price it will be hard for many of us dare to switch.

I might switch brass on a new barrel but reviews and price would have to be good.

Anyway... Less brass shortage!
Now if Berger could just keep up.

Hasnt peterson been kicking this can down the road since the last br shortage? They missed the boat on that one and now if its true the others are getting in there then they lost that much more footing.

They better get it right the first time, or they'll never recover from the bashing they'll get. They have an almost insurmountable standard set and a very vocal, (maybe minority) in this group of shooters will destroy it publicly if the first lot out isn't plug and play with their pet load/chamber.

So very true. It will be neat seeing how the br will shoot with a variety of brass. I wasn’t in the game back when rem made their brass.
I would guess starline wont be the top competitor for quality and brass life but they may surprise us. If someone wanted to buy bulk and go prairie doggin, their brass will be the cheap alternative.
I would hope most on here wouldn’t plug in their current load in and expect it to shoot the same. Let’s drop it down a grain and work back up.

Contacted Peterson about making 6br brass several months ago. Look forward to seeing another option available.

I've been shooting 6BR since the 70's. After Remington's hay day with their brass, I've shot nothing but Lapua since. Either I'm getting pretty picky or Lapua isn't what it used to be. I broke out some blue box brass recently for a new 30BR barrel and after culling it I wound up with 68 pieces I can trust. That's some serious attrition! I never threw out more than a few in the gold box era. Competition is good for everyone!

That’s a ton of culls, especially at a buck a pop. I can see a few out of 100 maybe not being up to snuff but 32 is outrageous. What was wrong with the brass? I think I’d have contacted Lapua.

I've heard that they had 300 WSM brass coming out since last year, But still none in sight. I've contacted Ben but can't get a definite time frame

what's your culling process/ protocol?

I shoot Lapua brass for short range BR. I do nothing more than a visual inspection, then weight sort and get rid of the extreme outliers on either end of the spectrum. From there, I've sub-grouped further, but in short order I decided that was too much messing around for me. I couldn't see the difference on the targets when shooting dedicated sub-groups or when I mixed brass from sub-group A with sub-group B. Regardless of method, the number of culls has varied some by brass lot number but never anywhere close to 32%.

I do not sort by volume, so I would expect some more culls. If I did take that extra step, should I expect to lose 32 out of 100? It seems that I could sub-group those cases by weight and volume then only shoot the like sub-groups and still not lose that many cases.

Maybe I have it all wrong and I'm missing something and 32% is the normal attrition rate. Maybe I should be sorting by volume too. I've only been at this SR BR thing for a couple years. That's why I asked the question in the first place because it really caught me off guard that the number would be so high.
