Standard recoil lug on a magnum setup

What would happen? Say you put a standard size recoil lug on a 300WM setup? This is on a Savage.

I don't think they they would fit most of the mag barrel are large shank . Larry

If you're talking about strength and rigidity you'll be fine. I've never seen a shoulder tough enough to get a .184" thick piece of steel to flex.

Because people will buy anything...
Rem uses the same lug for 222 through 458 WM - and the lugs have NEVER failed.

Because someone, somewhere, sometime probably won a match and it was all because of the thicker lug. Then there's the Marine way, thicker, heavier just has to be better.

If you check your going to find the align up detente is bottomed out in the grove the nut isn't tight at the bottom Larry

Apply some common sense to the question.

No wood or fiberglass stock would stand up to the forces that a standard recoil lug can. Bedding compound may spread the force a bit, but the recoil lug really isn't the weak link.

If the lug was several inches long it might be a different story. By virtue of their small size, they are plenty stiff.
