Stand/Pole for wind flags-Updated prototype pics added

Still working on it???

Bought a couple of wind flags here on the forum, minus the poles (Jeffery Wind flag). Right now I have a couple of old tripods, one is a camera/spotting scope type that I am using. What does everyone recommend, they will have to have a 1/4"x20 male thread for the flag to mount to.

Thanks,

Tim

All photography light stands will accept 1/4-20 threads. Check local craigslist or facebook marketplace for some used ones cheap. But they're not expensive new. Wescott, Godox and Lumopro are decent brands that arent expensive new.

Appreciate everyones input. Decided today to build one as a project. I know all ranges and terrain is different, what is a good minimum height? Picked up some pieces at Lowe's this afternoon to get started with. I will post some pics when I get it finished.

Thanks,
Tim

I used a golf ball retriever. Put a walking stick 4 prong end on it, removed a couple of top sections.
It'll go to 12-15 ft.
The vanes of the flag need to be red and white ...my yellow and orange ezell ones are only good to 200 max unless I can look with scope.

I saw these on Amazon, a lot of variety. $7.99. Hope this helps, I could copy the link, just do a search.

Get a set of newwer light stand from amazon . They work great and make a set of pivots for the tops. And don’t look back07FDBFE0-130D-430F-9FD7-60FC8166486B.jpeg
Tap and thread a 1/4 by 20 tap one end and screw it on the stand . This is a set of 3/16 pivots. You can build a set for less then 75$

Update:
Initial prototype ready for testing at the range. I need to take some height measurements at different yardages, to come come up with a happy medium for minimum height. Right now as it sets the height is 37" to the tip. I left it a little long so I still had some room to shorten it if needed. So far I have less than $25. invested, not including labor. It started life as an extendable paint pole with fiber glass handle. I shortened up the handle and the aluminum extension. Added a 1/4"x20 threaded stud to the end for the wind flag pivot ball attachment. The base is made from pipe fittings and a 3/8" bolt for the spike. Planning on adding a foot step plate to assist in planting it in the ground.

Gonna be hard to reach that pivot !
My buddy has levels that he holds on the pole, no pivot.

Yeah,
This has a fisheye level on the flag so I can level it before I extend it.
