Spider for Lathe

I have seen some previous post on the bolts used for spiders on the lathes, front and back. I see most people have drilled and inserted copper into the head of bolt.
Would it be okay to use aluminum bolts instead?

I use Nylon screws set into the setscrews, don't know as I want copper or aluminum
marking the barrel....

If aluminum was used against the barrel and it should slip, I would fully expect that would mar the barrel. Aluminum is an abrasive. I'll stay with copper.

I guess I am just too lazy. I use split copper pipe arround the barrel, under steel screws. Been doing it this way for many years.

Rustystud, now you are talking.
My father in law is a retired plumbing contractor.
I know where there are lots of scrap pipe laying around.
Thanks for all of your post guys.
