Speer Gold Dot 22mag test. Another test.

One of the problems you can have with light bullets is rapid expansion leading to poor penetration. Short barrel/low velocity can make it worse.

My first ballistic test surprise was 22 Mag Vs LR on a junk car door in the desert. 22 mag left a dent, LR pierced it clean. Not what 15 year old expected.

Check penetration in something like Rebel's box or gel. Compare that penetration to having loose clothing material, shirt, light jacket whatever is worn in your area in front of the same media. The results may change your mind about the effectiveness.

Carrying a firearm shouldn't comfortable it should be comforting.
I quit carrying small pistols years ago. Dress around the firearm.
I get what you're saying but we're I live it's 110+ in the summer so a jacket or extra shirt is not possible.... I have a friend that's a lethal force instructor for Leo for over 20 years , he like myself carries a G19 on his person daily but even he has one of these little pistols and it's loaded with the gold dot ammo.. As he says sometimes I just don't feel like getting suited up to go to the convenience store so I drop it in my shorts pocket... Is it ideal , no , but it's better than throwing soda cans lol... Once again .22 mag is no joke....There alot of people killed with a .22lr and there's no comparison between .22lr and .22 mag... Out of a rifle it's amazing for what it is...

You know I can cover a full size pistol with a tshirt in the summer. Just saying. That is not the time to be left wanting!

Another off topic.. lots of guy in the office carry small guns... i carry a full size. I dont care if it prints, I dont care if its seen.. although open carry is fine. I want a big mag of bullets, I want control, I want what Im used to and trained with, i want it in its normal place on my right hip, and I want it accessible.

If you cant draw it out quick, your dead. This pocket carry, abdomen carry, and worst of all small of your back carry are stupid places to place a gun on your body to be VERY accessable, and you have no gun retention techniques. Train like you fight.

I always considered an NAA as a get the F*&% off me pistol, not a fighting pistol. It has it's place. There again, I never considered a big double stack a great carry pistol, though they make new pistols all the time that make me want to change my mind. Being in the south, wearing thin T-shirts a lot, the thin single stacks make a lot of sense. Whatever caliber chosen in that platform, it's the most concealable and the most shootable of the choices IN MY area. At 96 % humidity and 98 degrees you will leave that tactical CC vest at home.
If I had a real choice I'd carry a Doc Holiday rig with the birds head on the cross draw. I'd beat you with the Serpa holster all day long plus it would have style.
There again, I'm really old school - Jim Borden, Jelly Bryce and Elmer Keith - two killers of men and one an awesome handgun shot were my study. Who really needs more than 6 rounds in an average gun fight?
Sure there are examples, FBI in Florida back in the day, but in a street fight it's usually no more than 3 -5 rounds as the recent Texas church shooting demonstrates. Carry what you shoot best.

I don’t think this is a gun you want to carry to church for self or family Protection but it would make a good Belly gun for a daughter wife or someone that may be in abduction trouble. Better off to have a little gun like this than no gun at all.
How many raped or murdered women would have given there life’s savings for a little gun like this in their pocket? Let’s face it, some women aren’t going to carry even a subcompact. They don’t want it cramping their wardrobe. This little gun has its place.

I have one I have carried on and off for years, its handy when I go for a long run or someplace else a larger guns gets in the way. I can keep hits on a p1 shillouette under 20 feet or so, 10 feet for the center mass circle. FYI 22 mag will penetrate a standard level2a vest as was demonstrated to us in the academy, its not a 22lr. MY old LT actually shot at a guy with one who was trying to split his head with a brick. The guy immediately collapsed to the ground. TUrned out he didn't hit him, the muzzle blast scared him so bad he fainted. He was pretty peppered up from powder burns though.

Denim jeans and three jugs of water at 10 feet. Bullets passed through three jugs of water cleanly and I dug these 2 out of the ground. They will definitely penatrate but now it's over penatration.

I intend to try a truck door as soon as I get another to replace my old ton dump ford driver door. (Dont back up with an open door is the moral of the story)

I was going to mention it seems a lot of HP’s will clog and pencil through.
I won’t knock anyone for what they carry. Being proficient with it is the number one thing.

A 22mag trumps a 45 at home in the safe.

I will some what agree on dress around what you carry. Everyone is not 6’ and weighs 190.
My wardrobe has shrank in the closet the past few years for some unknown reason? I think more about what I buy as far as clothing more now than ever.

What do dumpsters and vehicle doors have to do with the subject, just asking?

So now the question is if the jeans slowed the slowed the velocity below expansion threshold, or did the tip plug up and prevent hydraulic expansion?

If it was velocity a longer barrel might cure it, if it’s the denim, might be time to try a different bullet.

I enjoy testing bullets, but it’s disappointing how many don’t live up to hype, or just don’t work outside of a narrow perimeter.

Try it with layers like a t-shirt, hoodie sweatshirt, and jacket like most thugs wear in colder weather. I believe the .22mag has more real world stopping power than most think it does.

I've shot thousands of digger squirrels that would wholeheartedly agree.... 32g JHP's.
