Speer Gold Dot 22mag test. Another test.

@Dusty Stevens asked for me to get back on this test. This was a very infomal back yard test. Gun is an NAA revolver with 1 5/8" barrel. Ammo Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection Short Barrel. Target was 3 1gallon jugs full of water lined up. First 2 shots high on jugs exited the 3 jugs cleanly. 3rd shot I aimed lower to hit the fattest part of the jug with the 3rd bullet resting in the 3rd jug of water. I always have this at church. Edit: this was from 10ft away measured with a tape measure.

That’s beautiful expansion. Any chance of doing a penetration test? Certainly looks like a 22 WMR snubbie is better than throwing rocks.

Well, the target is roughly 8 inches by 30 inches. Plus, even the seasoned bad guy runs when he’s confronted. Looks like a match made in heaven for you.

I am not trying to stir trouble, but I see this often and I am guilty of it myself. People choose something small and light because it is easy to carry and easy to conceal. I have a 16 oz P938 that I often leave at home because it hammers my hand so much that I really hate to shoot a box of bullets through it to practice. I think about the situations that I read about like the church in Texas, and if I have to take my gun out to try to end a bad situation, I want something that fills my hand and that I can shoot competently.

I also remember something that Massad Ayoob wrote: the guy who advances into the threat is likely to end it decisively.

Paul Harrell did a test with this ammo. Those that have not seen this guy needs to check him out. Very low ego, but super informative. Distinguished rifleman, in USMC and Army, and has been in two self defense shooting

As to this portion of your post. I cant count how manyy times Ive been hassled by friends for only carrying a 380 and not whatever sweet pistol they seem to have left in their truck/house ect. Not a dam one of them ever see's the irony!!!

I knew a couple of cops from down Miami way. they were in a dept that was corrupt and left. they went to work in a small town that was industrial property and one trailer park. The had way too much time on their hands, and all of them carried 380s. They had a contest to hand load ammo for the 380s that would go through both sides of a dumpster. All but one ruined a gun or two

I've seriously considered carrying a S&W 351 C or PD 7rd .22 mag at 11.5 ozs. I wouldn't want to be shot with a .22 mag vs a .380 or less and believe they'd do a good job of penetrating layered winter clothing. Recoil is manageable but muzzle flash could be an issue.... FWIW.

No it's not. Most perps shot with a .22 mag fold like a cheap suitcase, more so with good shot placement. If that perp is high on cocaine or crack, might take a couple of shots from a .44 or
.45 to stop 'em.
It might take a spine hit!
Pistols kill through blood loss.
The very most of the time the attacker stopping is a choice, as opposed to inability to continue.
Choice may not be best word but I cant think of a better term.
I saw a report on attack stoppages and the 22 was very high for first shot stops.

Test Idea -
Redneck ballistic media. Take old phone books, newspapers, ect. Bind them rather loosely and place in a box. You should leave a little space for the paper to expand. Fill bag with water and let the paper absorb it completely. (usually takes at least 24 hours. ) Simulates flesh reasonably well, I'd say you'll get 20% more penetration in that than the real thing. You could add some deer rib bones in between layers, which I have done. Recovery is relatively simple, disposal of soggy, heavy box a pain.
Or you could get some of this - https://www.clearballistics.com/?gc...BFRFSu7wbstujemR6zAr3mA9HbFCchH0aAmTjEALw_wcB
If you look, they occasionally have off color seconds at a reduced price.
