Theyve had a sp sub forum for a long time.
I knew of three clubs in Region 4 that had sets of targets setting in fence rows after they either closed or quit.At least for me it wasn’t a expensive equipment race. My last Unlimited rig was a T/C Contender with a factory 7mm T/CU 14” barrel with the T/C Silhouette rear with a Ken Light rear cantilever sight base and KL front sight. I had about $700 invested including loading dies and brass. I and the gun shot consistent 40x40 scores with winning a number of tie shoot offs.
Some years ago IHMSA did finally approve the usage of optical sights for the Unlimited Class.
I believe the biggest problem with gun clubs who would consider hosting IHMSA events is prohibitive cost of all the steel targets and the target stand supports. AR 400/450/500 steel is rather expensive, plus too have them cut out to regulation size.
Yeah my 40x40 scores were only the beginning of the fun. It was the tie breaker shoot offs with chicken targets at 200 yards. With some of the shoot off coming down to who had the most ammo with them. Shoot offs were held at the end of the one day match.I knew of three clubs in Region 4 that had sets of targets setting in fence rows after they either closed or quit.
A friend of mine once made the statement that a good competition should be all but impossible to shoot a perfect score. Once it is done some loose interest. This particular gent shot a 1/2 size standing 40x40 and threw the card away because it wasn’t recognized as a sanctioned position. He did it and had little interest after that.
I can recall in the mid to late 80’s when some one shot a 40x40 it was a big deal. Forward into the mid to late 90’s, 40x40+10 did nothing but put you into another shoot off. It got tough enough in 1/2 size that .22 chickens were used.
I have told several friends on the east side of the Mississippi not go any further west. The little soft recoiling cap guns may take over targets of the auto reset type that are serviced and topple point kept up.
Come over here on a rainy day and get targets with mud on their feet hand set by a wet and frustrated young target setter and pigs and turkeys just laugh.
Think we now have a total detail of the original post , lol.
Would Accurate Shooter benefit from a specialty pistol sub-forum?
