help ranking these pistols...

Love my 686. I carry a six-shot Ruger .327 Fed Mag snubby. Like someone said, not everyone can always operate a pistol. I was having trouble because my hand is too big for my M&P 40 — I kept hitting the mag release on accident. The mag release is reversible so I just flipped it around and learned to hit it with my trigger finger when I want to use it. The point is, when it comes to pistols, if possible try before you buy because if they don’t fit you right, they will not get used much.

Long live Clint.....took two pistol classes from him before he went w Jeff full time. He opened my Bullseye seasoned eyes to a whole new world.
Mozambique........!!!!
Never took a Thunder Ranch course but am a grad of both Magpul Dynamics, both Carbine and Pistol classes, and of Gunsite.
Also, we have one of the best right here in Alabama. Tiger Mckee at Shootrite is a great instructor and good guy.

Let’s boil it down into types first...

Double action revolvers
357s
S&W 686, S&W 66, 19, S&W 27...
Colt Python, 357...parts can be an issue
Ruger GP100s, P101
38s
(Same order but model numbers change) so far as I know Ruger only makes 357s.

45 ACP Autos
Colt 1911, 1991, any series.
Springfield Armory
Smith&Wesson, Glock, CZ
... (there are some other lesser known makes that are just as equal to Colt and SA.
Kimber & Les Baer (while based on the 1911, these are not what Browning intended nor are they really match ready.)
...
Norinco

9mm
CZ75
Glock,S&W m&P, S&W Gen2, Springfield XDM
Walther, (including P38)
Colt 1911
Ruger P85 or P93
Beretta 92, Taurus 99.

So the ones you have to choose from are middle to low in their respective packs. Of the bunch the Ruger GP, but I’d look elsewhere really.
Call this number: 563-289-2126.

When you get thru ask for Mr. Baer. When he is on the line tell him his product is not what John Browning intended and that they are not match ready. Report back as to what his response is.

This is a place to obtain opinions and in this case you need to develop your own. Define what you want to achieve with the pistols, do some research on reviews of pistols you might be interested in. Then go to a gun shop with a good inventory and personnel that will let you handle the ones you are interested in. Don't buy on impulse, go home and think about what you saw and felt in your hands. Then make your purchase/s.

I agree Kimbers are not match ready as the barrel fit can be greatly improved. Les Bear the barrel fit is fine. Maybe not bullseye match fit but damn close. For Bianchi Cup match where you need 4" groups at 50 yards it is fine.

My Kimber wears a Kart barrel. As it was not accurate enough at 50 yards.

Count me out!!!

Ouch. Count me out too. I didn't know that. I just couldn't afford his asking price. Have to admit his work is pretty and he has some neat innovations.
He does state on his website that it takes 12-14 months.

I've never seen one used for sale, so they must be keepers (or maybe he never actually made one).

Well that’s no fun!;) I like to buy all different kinds of pistols to “try”. I’m a sucker for the new “best pistol ever” and the “greatest pistol ever made”.
Thanks for that bit of info, johnfred1965! I bought my Berretta as soon as they came out. Probably what’s wrong with it.:(
I’ve been reading a lot of old westerns by Louis L’Amour these days and I’m thinking I need to have a Colt SAA to try........with a holster.........to try the “quick draw”........without blowing my toe off!

Call Steve Huff at Accuracy X if he’ll work on a Les Baer. https://accuracyx.com/

Or Jon Eulette or KC Crawford. KC was the pistolsmith for the USMC.
I’ll bet that breaks Les’ heart!???

I wonder what your guys can do with my rattle-trap Colt Defender. I have to keep it well greased or it rattles and clanks so bad everyone knows I’m carrying.

I bought a Walther PPK/s new in 1971 for $71.25. That was my wholesale cost when I owned the gun shop in those days. Carried it during almost all my waking hours and wore the finish off it in the first couple of years. Had it nickeled and it is new looking even to this day. Now there are those that say that a .380 ACP won't do the job and that may be fairly true, but in over 48 years the gun has never Cleared Leather, with the exception to be taken out of the holster at night.

in today's world, attacks often come from multiple assailants. Shots will be from

1-9 feet. You will be so scared you may forget that you have a pistol in your waste band. You may have already have been hit in the head, dazed trying to figure out what just happened to you.

Muscle memory from practice will take over, if you have practiced. Gun Fit, trigger reset, trigger pull poundage, my come into play. Most of the high tec training is total nonsense, other than to get you to fire your pistol to see if the darn thing will even function properly.

CZ and clones(EAA) with 17-20 shots would come in handy as you will fire in a state of shock, bewilderment, and possibly injured.

You can get 44 special and 10mm in the GP100.

Sadly, I cry because I don't have the unlimited budget other's seem to have.
I don't have the budget I used to, but I still have my Hi-Power. That will be the last one to go, and then I will just sit in my basement in the dark drinking bourbon and eating cheetos
