What tolerance do you all sort to when sorting Base to Ogive? +-.001, +-.002, max of .005, max of .010 etc.? Thanks all, Brian.

i do not do base as i seldom shoot flat base bullet at lone range. you did not say what distance caliber.
i measure with two tools one from the boat tail and to the ogive in one step .001

I have talked to a few folks on this subject and I have come to the conclusion that I’m just going to measure oal +or- .003 and roll with it.Thats with Berger 200 20x. I did just get my Bob Green oal gauge may play with it and may not.

How equal you want your bullets seated, is pretty much your answer. Testing indifference's against each other, will tell you what is the best sorting spread to fit your own scenario's and accuracy acceptances.

I measure bullet base to ogive, BBTO, for my 142 SMK's. The older lot measured about .791. A newer lot measured .754. I decided to maintain the cartridge base to ogive, CBTO, measurement at 2.233 which had worked well with the longer BBTO. It surprised me that I only had increase my seating die .005 to get the same CBTO with the shorter bullet. At the range both the bullet with the longer and shorter BBTO shot about the same. It's a stretch but I would say that CBTO and the resulting distance to the lands is of much greater importance than the BBTO.
