Sons of Liberty on the History Channel

Have enjoyed watching how the United States came to be. Don't want to give it away but the show start in Boston, 1765 and is 3, 2 hour episodes that ends July 4, 1776.

If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend watching. Hope their's more to come!!

Yes, watched all 6 hours last week when it premiered! Excellent show! Sam Adams and John Hancock were the instigators in Boston! The Battle of Bunker Hill in part 3 was pretty wild!

I have read that only 3% of the American people actually fought against the British. If that number is correct, it is the one reason I still hold out hope for this country. Thinking the % today just might be a little higher.

Thanks to our French allies, we aren't living under British rule, and speaking the Queens english.

Not sure about that myself. I think that there's about 99% of Americans that bitch and complain and belly ache about everything but when the day comes to take up arms and fight for our freedom/survival, 98% of those people will run and hide and depend on the rest to save their asses. I hope I'm wrong because the way the world is moving and the way our country is moving...it's not far fetched that war could be coming within our own borders, whether it's a civil war or some foreign invasion.

A 2 minute snippet from the show. As OP already mentioned, I recommend everyone see this show also. I never stay up past 9PM any more, but I did for 3 nights in a row last week..

This show kinda reminds me of what is being forced down our throats by the ruling class today. Mandatory seems to be the word of the day. Those 3 episodes put a new light on what freedom through history means to me. Series need to be shown in schools.

I agree. I've encouraged my grown children 28,20 and 19 years old, to watch the series and try to fully understand the sacrifices some brave few took to start this country. These men, and women were visionaries. Hopefully, with Gods help, we'll never have to endure another war within the United States' boundaries.

While the show is not 100% factual I had the same thoughts as I was watching it. Committee of Correspondence would be a bit more challenging with the NSA though.

I liked it so much I went and bought some sam adams boston lager. never had it before. rough at first but then it grew on me--cant wait to get some more. what a great show. I tried calling history channel and praise them but could not find a number to call.

Anyone that missed it (me) and wants to watch it (me again), they have all three full episodes on the History Channel website and also on the History Channel on Demand channel if you get that through your cable or sat. provider.

Well, I see no threat from the British, so you can count me among the 97%. ;)

I've read that 33% were for the revolution, 33%against, and 33% were neutral.

I'm sure Sam Adams Brewing company is enjoying an uptick in business as the primary sponsor of the mini series. I never thought to reach for their brew but just had too. Reading their website they make over 60 different types of beer. I found a 12 sampler pack and thought most were very good.

I agree about foreign rule! But in Kentucky where I live being exposed to many fellows with five first names a little Queens English would be quite refreshing. ;D

Not sure of the percentages, but lots of folks were content to be "subjects of the crown" or "colonists". Thousands of them, some of whom were my ancestors, fled from New England to Canada, surrendering all their possessions and property in the process. These "Loyalists" settled into southern Quebec and the Maritimes giving the English names to most of the towns in those areas.

This story isn't perfect in all details, but, then again, the history books are not accurate all the time either. The overall presentation is excellent, realistic, and pretty much only understood by people who still have a hunger for freedom from an oppressive government. There is a lot to the story of the Revolution prior to and after the show but this is a great window of information.

I too have watched Sons of Liberty and enjoyed it. We should all encourage every young person that we interact with to see it. While not 100% factual it is still inspiring and entertaining and breathes life into the fight for freedom that our founders endured.

My earliest American ancestor was born in Scotland in 1725. His first appearance in American records is from a muster roll for the French and Indian War in 1755. He migrated from Butts (now Warren) county NC to Wilkesboro, NC around 1775. In October of 1780 he and 2 sons joined the expedition to fight the British led Tory Militia at Kings Mountain, NC. (The Patriot militia routed them of course and proved that the Red Coat army could not easily sweep the southern colonies aside as they had planned.) My family has participated in every armed conflict since.

I don't know why but the last time I started a topic like this it was pulled. I thought it might be because it was not directly to shooting. It was a Frontline documentary called, Top Secret America. (Apr. 30 2013.) I thought it would be of value to a lot of members on here. If you ever want something shockingly interesting to watch I cant think of a better way to spend 45 min.
If more knew about this I just can't believe it would be tolerated.

gilream, very interesting history about your family....we all got her some kinda way. I am not a reader and although the mini series probably wasn't totally accurate, I'll admit, I learned parts about our history I didn't know. My children have finally gotten around to seeing all 3 parts and they loved it.
