Smokeless Muzzleloader Build

Awesome, didn't see why it couldn't be done. Using the 45acp brass do you have to modify the case web as you do with the modified 308 cases? What do you charge to modify the savage bolt head? Could you do it with a 308 bolt head or would I have to get another head?

the 45 acp brass I worked with was uniform enough that it smeared on the nipple when the bolt closed for a positive seal.
Yes you need to start with a 223 bolt head which are hell to find. if you have the 308 b head just remove the ejector and the extractor should hold it in OK.

I'm confused...as usual. Please explain how you used a 45acp case with a 223 bolt head. And does the ejector really influence it when you're getting a smear from the nipple? ???

I take a 223 bolt head, strip it, machine the face of the bolt so it looks similar to a reloading press shell holder.
The acp brass slips in from the side on the open bolt, and is held by the bolt face itself with the counter/recessed bolt face, no extractor or ejector is used.

O.k., I got it. I'm thinking more along the lines of using a .308 bolt head and an unmodified 45acp case. Thanks!

The reason they modify the inside of the case is to have an exact dimension to the nipple for a perfect tight seal(around 10 lbs) when the bolt is closed. The inside of any case is rounded and not perfectly flat. You could set the case in a collet holder in a mill vise and go in with an endmill to make a nice smooth flat surface for the seal and set it up to take an exact depth each time to maintain the seal.

Has anyone ever done this with anything other than a 700 action?
Here's one built on a Winchester Heavy Varmint. I built it with a 24" barrel and a 3.5-15x50 N/F.
I'll try to post more pix and info when I get a little more time, next week.

I've always thought a falling block would be a good choice. Any particular reason why something like a Ruger #1 wouldn't work?

There is one built on a Ruger #1 Its called a Bad Bull.

I have two smokeless muzzeloaders built by Justin Munden. one built on 600 action and one on xr 100 nice and short.

I have had one for two years. It's a 700 Remington with a Pacnor barrel with a Pacnor barrel nut like a Savage. It head spaces like a snap. I can switch the barrel to any remington action I have.
