Slow twist triple deuce?

If you have some, try the 40 V-Max with 8208 XBR. Also, the 40 gr. Hornet bullets are flat based and short plus have a thin jacket that will expand quickly (as long as it holds together till it gets there). I would get a tight brush and rod that will rotate freely and make sure of twist if neither shoots well. If you happen to have a 14 twist, the 40 V-Max load above works with several 14T .222's I've had.

My old Sako shot the Hornady 55 grainers well, sunk them to the cannelure and about 23 grains of almost any powder worked well, you cant get much more in them.
I found that the older Sako's didnt like 60+ grain bullets, believe me i tried, they were a popular deer cartridge here for meat recovery. ( head and neck shots)
The later Vixen was mostly used and a deer culler I know well told me he never took one with a head or neck shot and instead always in the crease just behind the shoulder. He shot 1000's back in the day when they were really thick and decimating NZ bush.
Factory 50gr Norma's was his preference as they were highly dependable.

Bill,
Keep us updated with the 40 gr Bergers; if you like, I can share samples of 40 gr bullets from my stash to try. PM if you want them.

I have a Sako Riihimaki 222 and its an older one with the slooow twist 1-16. I haven't loaded but a few different weight bullets and results weren't terrible but I think it could/should be better. I tried 52's and 50's and groups were hovering +/- around an inch. Any suggestions on a bullet and powder combo that might give better results? I have some 40 grain Bergers on the way hoping they might improve group size. If it matters, it is a heavy barrel.
Thanks-Bill
I started in the IBS 30 years ago with a .222 Winchester, totally stock except I installed a Jewell 2oz trigger. I beat a lot of ppcs with it. 50 grain Nosler BT and 748.It was a 16 twist from Winchester.

My preference too but couldn't make the L46 sing with them yet my Rem Model 7 in 223 would shoot bugholes with them.
