Sinclair or Caldwell?

I am on the market for a front rest, but am not sure if I need a windage top or not. How important is this feature for informal target shooting? I would like to get the Sinclair lightweight model with all-purpose top, and have the option to upgrade to a windage top in the future. How does this rest compare to the Caldwell Rock, I have heard mixed reviews about the Rock. Does anybody have anything good to say about it?

go with the Sinclair or similar and you won't regret it...

the windage top is pricey but you get hooked on it right away...

it's really about the money... if you afford it, you'll be happier

For $75, the Midway/Caldwell 'Rock' is a good piece of gear. You can't go wrong at this price point. You *can* go wrong if you were to buy the POS Hoppes rest, which isn't worth twenty bucks, let alone forty whatever it costs.

The windage top is not necessary for informal target shooting.

Although Sinclair makes excellent products, and they are worth the money, and I use one myself), you should not spend more than you can afford. A bunch of people going into debt, and then bailing on paying their debt, results in the incredible mess that faces the US taxpayer now. Caused by irresponsible people and corrupt/reckless/irresponsible government. Don't be one of these losers. Buy what you can afford! :)

Another worthy, IMO, alternative is the Wichita rest as you can purchase from Brownell's. Plenty heavy duty, can accept,if I recall correctly) a windage top as an aftermarket accessory, and a good price point. See it here: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16137&title=PRECISION%20RIFLE%20REST

Their so-called 'dealer' cost is about $29 less. I could order it for you from them, for that price, if you decide you want one. :)

Nate,
I don't see anything that says he can't afford it. He was just asking about them. I believe that they are 2 different animals. The Caldwell is heavy and it has a good base to put somebody else top on. The Sinclair lightweight is more for the Fclass shooters that have to wag theirs around.

There is a Caldwell 1000 yard model with windage top front and rear bag, and carrying case in the For Sale section for 200 bucks.

I sold my caldwell Br and just received 2 others rests. One of those rests is made by Ray Porter and is just a little more than the caldwell but is far superior in my opinion. If your on a budget you would be very hard pressed to do better. Here is his email if interested..

I second that about Ray Porter's front windage rest. I just recently bought one from him and it is a quality piece of workmanship. Highly recommended! Takes a little time to put it together if you not mechanically inclined, like me - like they say,'I'm mechanicall inclined to screw things up!') but once everything is on right it works great.
