Sightron SIII 10-50X60

I have two, been using them for a couple of years with no problems. A buddy did have one and his elevation adjustment went out, Sightron fixed it, no questions asked.

Sounds like LESLEY works for Simmons. ;)

Wrong March and knightforce. Is a Sightron as good as either one.

Is that a question? I don't see a question mark. Assuming it is a question, I wouldn't expect Sightrons to be as good as NF or March - they don't cost as much.
And I will say this: Sightrons are hard to beat, value to dollar spent.

"And yes, my scope has a sliver moon shaped black spot at 6 o'clock position. (scope tube bent ???) Jiggling the Ocular adjustment ring doesn't seem to effect the half moon at all..."

Thanks much, Dale

That black sliver is called vignetting (vin-YET-ing), and is seen in many scopes when the erector cell is all the way at one end or the other, of the adjustment range.

By it self, it is not a problem in a good quality scope - it can be seen in the Leupold 16x MK4-M1, (a $2,000 scope) for example.

I have it in a Bausch & Lomb Tac, an $1,800 scope, with 150 moa of vertical adjustment - it is on a 50-BMG rifle and set up so I can use ALL of the elevation, and the 100yd "0" is just 2 moa above the bottom... and I see vignetting when shooting at 100 to ~ 400 yds.

IT self is not a problem... but if the optics are poor off center of the optical system, then the image will be poor when the cell is all the way at one end or the other..

Been using Sightrons long before they became mainstream on everything from 50BMG down to 6mm. Absolutely no problem with any of them. Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. Some may have issues but considering that percentage vs price, Hmmmm. Besides, there is a stellar customer service group behind them. To all who choose to spend 2 or even 3 times the amount for a scope I say, more power to ya. It keeps the economy strong and promises great stock investment returns for me.

I have 4 SIII 10x50's. Best scopes I have used yet. I have sold most of my Leupold 45x. I use the Sightrons on my railgun and 3 bench guns. Not one single problem as of yet. I find they hold point of impact better than my Leupolds did.

And yet you still can't spell Nightforce.

No, a Sightron is not as nice as a March, it was never meant to be, in fact if it did compete directly with the March with the same quality glass and coatings it would also cost the same as a March. Sightron is the best that money can buy for $1000 in a competition scope, Nightforce is the best for those with a $2000 budget and March is for those who do not have a budget limit to the optics they buy.

Had the pleasure of shooting at the Worlds last summer.

Saw a bunch of Sightrons, NF and March scopes. A few S&Bs and a couple of prototype Leupolds.

I shoot a custom reticle swap SIII10-50X60 LRMOA put into the 1/8 min scope tube.

On the Canadian National FTR team, we have Sightrons, NF and March being used. We were very happy to take Silver.

I guess some Sightrons can work...

And you can look at posts here from the fall 2013 discussing various scope related issues at the Worlds. ALL brands can have failures.

Didn't hear of any Sightrons tanking though....

just had the same thing done to the same scope .scope has never given me a problem i just wanted 1/8" min also its been on a 308 for 4-5 years and beside the turrets not as crisp and my NF bench scope to me they loof the same.

Interesting and informative thread.
I wonder if all the mostly positive comments about Sightron apply to their full range of scopes. I ask because I just bought a SIII 8-32x56. Should I expect an equally happy experience, despite it not being the 10-50x60 model?

Yes, scopes from different manufacturers have been known to fail. The good ones not so much, but it does occur.

We were very happy to take Silver.
We were shooting for gold, potential was there...stuff happens.

Anyone ever notice any problem with parralax withe these scopes?
I have two SIII 10-50x60 scopes and have had no problems with the parallax. When I bought the first one I thought the parallax adjustment was a little stiff and asked them to loosen it up a little and they did at no cost. I asked them how they loosen it up and the technician said they simply change the o-ring on the knob to one that is not as thick. On my second one I just left it alone and got use to it in no time. In fact I have had no problems at all with either scope and would purchase another one if the need arises.

I ran into "issues" again this past Sunday. Scope ran out of elevation at 1000 yards. Should not be having this issue.
Load is berger 185 LRBT running 2755 fps. With a 20 MOA base and about 18 MOA added from using the Burris Sig Rings. Yes I tripple checked the inserts to make sure they were installed correctly.

I started shooting long range BR with a Sightron SII 6-24 power, not the Big Sky model. I bought it used on ebay 5 years ago. Right off the paralax adj. didn't jibe with best focus so I sent it to Sightron. They fixed it no problem and it has been trouble free since.
I retired it a couple years ago for a N-F BR. Then, I built a new heavy gun and put the N-F on that and dug out the old Sightron for the 6BRX and used it in the Sacramento nationals the end of April.. Sad to say, My light gun (with Sightron) out-shot my super 284 WIN heavy gun with N-F!!!
Yes, I think cheaper Sightrons may not be as good as the SIII series, but they are no slouch either!

So far my SIII 10-50 has been great. I have not noticed the ocular lens move any, and its focus seems to be ok. I have it in BAT rings on a heavy F Open rifle in a pipsqueak caliber 6.5x47 so it hasn't taken any beating. To my eye, the view isn't as clear as my IOR scopes have been, but then it is a whole lot less expensive, too.

I was on the fence with the Nightforce, but at the time of my purchase, there were many comments about the then new Competition model being difficult to use due to critically short eye relief, so I passed on that option, and did not want to have to mess around with the parallax on the objective lens bell, ruling out their benchrest scope.

I would prefer a similar magnification scope with similar features built by IOR, but alas...
