Sightron SIII 10-50X60

Hi guys! Just finishing up mounting this scope. When adjusting the ocular lens for clarity of cross hair I noticed the cross hair changing position each time I touched the adjuster ring. Definitely not a good thing. Of course its Saturday night and can't talk to Factory 'til Monday. Has anyone else had this problem with this scope? All answers appreciated !

that is just one of the problems those scopes have. Backlash is another. Erector tube spring is another.

It will be going back its a matter of time. Its usally a short wait

Thanks for the feed back guys ;) When I bought the scope I didn't realize there was no lock ring for the Ocular lens. My green horn mistake and a VERY expensive one :-[ Also thanks for the heads up on erector. I'll have that checked when I return it. And yes, my scope has a sliver moon shaped black spot at 6 o'clock position. (scope tube bent ???) Jiggling the Ocular adjustment ring doesn't seem to effect the half moon at all.......... I read a post recently about using an O-ring to act as a lock ring on the Ocular. I suppose this might hold the rear lens more solidly. Anyone have experience with this? Like, what size/type O-ring? Thanks much, Dale

Get it fix then sell it as soon as you can. Count it as a lesson learned. I have been shooting F/TR for a long time and a Sightron 10x60 will bite you sometimes hard. Nothing worse than driving several hours to a match and have a scope fail. AND A SIGHTRON WILL FAIL THEY ALL DO. Look at past match winners. Not the local club matches. Major matches and see how many Sightron scopes are on the line.

I've been using a Slll 10X50 for almost 3years without any problems. It is mounted on a 284 Win. and has had a lot of use. They aren't all bad!

I had a minor coating problem with 1 SIII.
I have used probably 8 or 9 over the last few years depending on discipline they can be a great scope

Update....... Scope on Picatinny rail with signature Z's. -10 shim bottom front, + 10 top front. Reverse order on rear ring. Scope rings spread 4.5 inches. Scope zeroed to grid (100yd. zero) with Leupold zero point. Elavation knob six, 1/8" clicks off bottom. After removing scope from rifle I ran elevation up two full turns. The sliver moon black area I referred to earlier disappeared and scope image clarity improved greatly. I may need to spread rings further apart for less MOA or try the shims marked "0". Still need to look into a fix for the sloppy ocular adjustment. .......... Any & all savvy input appreciated. Thanks, Dale

I own three Sightron SIII scopes, on everything from a BR to an RSAUM, no problems at all, as for the reticle shifting, I wrap a little tape around the occular bell / eyepiece joint and slip the lens cover over it, I do this on all my scopes (including a USO SN3) the only scope I own with a lockring in a leupold mark 4 which happens to be the one that has given me problems.

All Sightrons do not fail, but I believe that all scope brands will experience some failures. I've had a Sightron for a couple of years without problems and it has won major matches.

There are only two kinds of optics in this world
1 - ones that have failed
2 - ones that haven't failed yet

anything can break and you may have got the "bad one or two" but on the whole they aren't bad

I'll be mounting a 10-50 today as soon as the truck brings the bigger box.

After Listening to you guys and talking with Sightron this AM I feel relieved ;) Very cordial folks with "can do" attitude at Sightron. Should the repairs (heaven forbid) not go well I'll post a follow up. Thanks to Gary Eliseo for the "ounce of prevention"......... Lesley, I appreciate your " tell it like it is" also. I know exactly how you feel. Later, Dale

Just finished the Sacramento nationals yesterday. Only scope failure I know of was a Leopold!
I initiated my new heavy gun and put my N-F on it. That means I had to put my old used Sightron SII 6-24 on the light gun. This scope I bought on ebay, sent it back to Sightron as the parallax didn't match focus. They promptly repaired it and sent it back and it has been absolutely trouble free since. I haven't used it for a couple years since getting the N-F and had forgotten what a nice scope it is!
Plus, my friend in Australia bought an SIII 10-50 and sold his March!
