Sierra Ammunition

Well, I went right to the source and emailed them a question. Here is the Sierra response:

Who is making the brass cases and loading your new ammo products? Inquiring minds want to know. Can you send a photo of the head stamp? Thanks for your help!

We are using various vendors brass, that has to meet Sierra’s exacting quality requirements.

The ammunition is loaded by Black Hills Ammunition.

Unfortunately I don’t have a way to send a picture of the head stamp at this time.

Thanks,

Gary

I seldom buy factory ammo, when I do it is out of curiosity. Picked up a box of 30-06 yesterday and shot a couple rounds this morning. Pleasantly surprised. 160 yards.

That is so true, I started my 6.5x47 world around a 50 count box of Lapua 136 grn bullets, yes they shot great, but had to rob a bank to pay for them, $150.00 or 3 buck a pop. But the brass just keep going and going. I am at 12 loadings and they are still like new.

I bought a 500rd case of Lapua 223 for under $240. At the time, it was cheaper than buying their brass alone. Near as I can tell, it's the same brass, as logic would dictate.

Received these inert cartridges from a Rep at Sierra’s booth at NRA Exhibits in Indianapolis last year. Also picked up samples of their new (to me) 77 gr TMK for testing in my 1-8 tw AR.
I did not think to inquire as to origin of cases.

I asked my contact at Sierra. I will post here if he replies; assuming he still works there. His email didn't bounce.

Answer.

"Unfortunately, no but it does carry our name on the head stamp. We thoroughly inspect everything so we know it is good brass."

Post #21 tells you all you need to know. Sierra contracts BHA to load their ammo, and since sierra lets them load them as long as they meet their standards id say if you wanted to know what brass they use the only people who would know are BHA people who source the sierra stamped brass. Asking sierra will only lead to more coded messages so if it really matters to you id be asking BHA.

I figure since BHA uses WIN brass with their headstamp they use the same for sierra brass. And id bet we’ll never find out for sure since everybody would poo-poo it if they knew it was WIN brass. So thats why i figure everybody will just say yea it meets specs. Just compare the font of the stamp and it may be clear.

BHA must buy a ton of brass so it likely wouldn't be that big of a deal to have their own headstamp put on, but maybe it is.
