Sierra 69 Blitzkings

Sierra’s website also now lists a 64gr tipped Gameking. The current 64 version is a personal yote and hog “truck gun” favorite of mine. If they improve it a little and keep the price point in line I bet it will be successful with the ranch rifle folks.

As others have noted, the 62 ELD-Vt is a bit tricky to get tuned. After three or so powder swaps - things fell into line for me. I haven't shot enough coyotes to make a call one way or the other about destructive power, though on ground squirrels (.22 Nosler @ about 3,000 FPS), the damage is far beyond anything I've gotten with Blitz Kings, V-Maxes or Ballistic Tips - and even better than the 50-grain Varmint Grenade - which is impressive indeed. And I've shot many, many thousands of each of them at the squirrels and sage rats. I've always found the 69 Sierras to be a bit touchier to tune than 50's, 52's and 55's in 1-8" or 1-9" twist tubes. Maybe just me and/or my rifles.... I'll definitely try that new 69 out, though.

Just placed an order for a couple boxes of the 69 gr. BK from the Sierra website. Only seen a couple vendors have them listed, but not yet available.

Nothing too exciting but did initial seating depth tests with the 62 eld-vt and the Sierra 69 blitzking this afternoon in a 22 br barrel Bradley did for me. Just guessed at powder load for each test.

I’m guessing I should have done powder first on the eld-vt as 29 grains of n140 was ok but nothing special. I suspect it wants more speed. 3 shot groups all ok and under an inch but nothing revealing on seating depth preference. All average, all the same. Will go the powder load method next with these.

The blitzking was a different story. Testing load was 30.5 of n150. No pressure signs but at a hair under 3,300fps I may be on upper end. Got lucky and I’m probably near my final load as everything from .015 in from touch to .015 jump produced three shot groups where almost every round touched. 44 shot group on the day at 7.7 sd so I’m close and hopeful n150 will work. Groups opened up a little (still good) until .06, and .07 jump which dotted up again.

Interesting to me at least is my first clean cold bore was 85 fps below the average velocity. I shot four additional foulers at touch to get started and those were the best group of the day.

I did a small and quick measurement when I got the blitzkings in, direct from Sierra and found them uniform in length and weight, with most the same weight with the outliers still ok for varmint loads. Posted it somewhere on here when I got them in.

Main takeaway is my initial thoughts are the 69 blitzkings are good to go, and in my barrel they like to be closer in. Will follow up when I get a little further along.

The 62 ELDVT can be very fussy.

It's awesome the 69 bk is not. I wonder if they explode. Boy, if they do that would be amazing.

Thanks!!
Those two boxes are now spoken for :D

I’m using that StaBall6.5 in my tikka now with the 77 TMK (3250 fps) and also used it with the 65 grain Sierra spbt.
I hope to try that new 69 grain BK in that tikka and also in the 22CM when I get that built in the next couple of months.

Lefty, that is the Tikka that I have. I'm always pleased with how well that lite little rifle shoots.
Right now, I'm using 39.0 grains of the StaBall6.5 with the 77TMK in Lapua brass, fed match primers.
OAL is @ 2.525" . I have 5 loads on that brass right now and primer pockets are tight.
My rifle definitely sped up after 100 or so rounds.
The 77TMK has performed nicely so far, moa or less on steel targets out to 500 yards. Also, I've taken a couple whitetail with it. My buddy has the identical rifle with a can, he is using Varget and getting about 50 fps less than me with the 77tmk. I watched him drop 3 young coyotes in a row at 350 yards in about 30 seconds with a little wind, they dropped in their tracks.
Good luck with your rifle.
Gary
