Sierra 155gr TMK

took some mug shots today. Quite the departure from the typical Sierra Line up in Bullet design. Found it quite interesting. If the gosh darn weather would break I could test em.

Russ:

Great pic, OK Weber has them in stock, but only 500 packs. Was thinking of ordering to try some. Will wait until people like you take them for a test drive. Heard Bob Mead shot them at AZ. They definately have a different profile from anything Sierra has ever done. I hope they are not sensitive to seating depth like all the other Sierras, or Berger 155.5 for that matter. Glad we have competition and Berger/Sierra keep trying to improve.

Keep us posted on your findings.

Russ,
Got some 175's to test hopefully this weekend at Lejeune. Unfortunately only 600 yds. but if they shoot well there they ought to shoot at 1,000. Using 4320 powder.

Blair:

What are your rough loads with 4320? Thinking of adding that to the list along with 4064 for future testing. You using SP or LP brass?

If the wind lets down Im going to suck it up and go test this week. Forcast is NOT looking good for future testing so Might just pick a half way decent day and go for it.

Let us know how it goes Blair.

Interested in the new 155s for sure. Has any one tried the newer powders that have come out in the last few years to gain a little velocity? CFE, AR Comp, 8208, Leverevolution, N530? I hate to admit it but I stopped testing 308 loads about 15 years ago.

Morgen,
Trying 10 each of 43.5 and 44 grains to see what happens. I haven't been able to go to the range and sit down to do some serious grouping with these bullets but if the loads I have don't work then that's what I'll have to do. For the 155's 46.5 works great. 47.2 worked well last Winter and Spring but cost me a position on the Vets team when it went way too hot at Camp Perry. Had my head up my "you know what" I guess. So, don't go too heavy on the 4320 loads, even if they shoot well now they may be too hot this Summer.

(I paid him 50¢ to say that ;) ;) ;) )

I bet Jerry Terney has tested these things... Wonder what he observed? Anyone got a link to that fine gentleman?

I heard via a couple friends of his that all he does now is make and drink wine all day. Come to think of it, not a bad way to spend the day :D

I'm curious to see what kinda results you guys get with the new Sierra bullets. Thats a very high BC for a 155. Hopefully they shoot well!

Preliminary results are in. Shot 15 rounds today and had to fight the barrel Mirage in this cool weather. Just want to note that I am NOT a benchrest shooter so im not sure I can hold much better than this. I am sad I didn't grab a better scope to put on it after I saw how they where shooting. I really struggled finding and holding center with my old old Leupold 24X benchrest scope. So what I guess I am sayin is that the results may be a lot tighter had I used better equipment and a better shooter.
Wanted to see what depth they liked. so I loaded 5 at .010 off, 5 more at .015 off the lands, and 5 more at .020 off. As far as I can tell it didn't seem to matter all that much with poor equipment I was using.
Testing was done at 600 yards with a real light breeze from Zero to 5MPH though the string. Temp at 30*. Lapua SP brass, .001 neck tension, CCI 450 Primer and Varget.

Thanks for the report Russ. Are you gonna test again with a different scope etc? I see you run Varget, have you ever tried H4895 or IMR 8208 with the 155s? Just curious.
