Got some 175's to test hopefully this weekend at Lejeune. Unfortunately only 600 yds. but if they shoot well there they ought to shoot at 1,000. Using 4320 powder.
Tried them in my tikka t3 ctr 308....@ coal spec, .227 off the lands ...holy batshit man, 41.5 gr imr 4064...and yes they shot like crap. How can you keep enough bearing surface in the neck and even get close to acceptable jump?Russ:
Great pic, OK Weber has them in stock, but only 500 packs. Was thinking of ordering to try some. Will wait until people like you take them for a test drive. Heard Bob Mead shot them at AZ. They definately have a different profile from anything Sierra has ever done. I hope they are not sensitive to seating depth like all the other Sierras, or Berger 155.5 for that matter. Glad we have competition and Berger/Sierra keep trying to improve.
Keep us posted on your findings.
If only they made a 175-180gr 7mm TMK...I also get great results with the 160 grain 7MM's and the 175 30's.I've tested them pretty hard in my 280AI,and they're some great 1,000 yard bullets.Had I known they would be as scarce as they are now,I'd have bought more and tested less.My 280AI has a Shilen Select Match heavy barrel and it's been under .250 several times for 5 shots at 100.Best group was a .194.Thousand yard groups were around 8-12 inches summer before last, and they were shot in not the best and not the worst conditions.I was jumping them .010,but they didn't seem to care about the seating depth too much.
The throats on the guns that the original posters are shooting them in are typically way shorter than what a Tikka factory gun is. Probably a 95 Palma or 2011 Fullbore or some chamber like that. Also, you may try more powder, like 44ish grains of 4064. Work up to it, of course, but those 155s like a little more speed than a 168 or 175, at least in my experience, for whatever that’s worth…..Tried them in my tikka t3 ctr 308....@ coal spec, .227 off the lands ...holy batshit man, 41.5 gr imr 4064...and yes they shot like crap. Thank you sir...much appreciated. Only tried the low charge because I had no idea what that bullet would do with that amount of jump. The throats on the guns that the original posters are shooting them in are typically way shorter than what a Tikka factory gun is.
