Should I go with a custom rifle?

I have seen two Browning White Gold 300 Win Mags with their Boss brake. Both of these guns shot 1/2 moa with several different factory loads.

I owned a Savage 116 Weather Warrior that did the same. Finally got nagged into selling it to a friend.

Neither of these guns were target rifles would not be fit for the repeated shooting necessary. Very accurate hunting rifles though.

Btw, if you don’t shoot with friends, and wear hearing protection, the BOSS tuner works.

If you can afford it I would say absolutely yes. Their is no better feeling than receiving a new custom build built to your specs.......well......maybe....the company of a fine woman might give you the same joy.

For now just factory. I can’t seem to find the time to get going on reloading.
Factory rifles are going to have a long free bore if you decide to reload later it'll be a chore keeping it in tune. An 8 pound rifle is light for a long range shooter. If you're going to shoot elk 300PRC is better than 6.5PRC but more recoil will challenge your shooting skills in that 8 pound rifle. Hart can build you a great rifle on a Remington action but when you're done it's still just a Remington. Like someone said earlier. Spend more money on the scope if you want to make that long shot!

The 30-06 has always been a big game killer. In most cases, it is a one shot, one kill caliber.
If it doesn't then a hunter need only look in the mirror to find the problem. 30-06 will take elk at 600 with a good tough bullet and a capable shooter. 6.5x55 has killed large moose for a long time in Europe and the 6.5 PRC has more horsepower still. Just got to find the right ammo for the job, and your rifle has to shoot it well. Cross fingers and hope you get lucky but be prepared for it to shoot 1.5MOA.

If you are a handloader, I see no need at all to spend that kind of jack unless you have plenty and it isn't an issue. I can't count the articles I read in all the gun rags about rifles that retail at $2500 - to $4K and the groups @ 100 yds don't really impress me at all. Back in 1994 I bought an off the rack
savage 110 in 308W that will shoot super small groups ( in the 2's and 3's) with handloads using ordinary hunting bullets and it only cost me $325.00 .. That said, it didn't shoot that great until I put her into a Choate varmint stock. The stock was about $250 but it turned an OK rig into a great rig. If money is no issue then I say go for a custom, but is it necessary? Not in my opinion.

Where is Jim Hack when you need him! This is just the type of question he was so good at accurately answering. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. Examples of the difficult questions he so artfully dealt with can be read in the 1971 Gun Digest at page 161.

Thanks for all the input. I want a hunting rifle first and foremost. I take a handful of precision rifle classes each year and want a hunting rifle that will also perform well in the "classes". They are not competitions, and I don't intend on shooting benchrest competitions anytime soon. I want a rifle I can have fun with and pack up and down a mountain. Sounds like my dilemma is similar to when I rode motorcycles. I wanted a bike that was fast, agile in the corners, and also comfortable for long distance rides. Not easy to find but I did find a balance and I think I can with a rifle as well.

gain check with Hart barrels they build superb guide rifles
3 shots in one hole is common with them and light weight if you want it
