Should Have Had A Shotgun

I’m doing a road trip that started up on the high line in Montana and I’ve made it to south Dakota. The Pine Ridge area has a mix of wide open prairie and some deep ravines full of pines. One of those is a stand that I’ve called dozens of time over the last 30 years. It holds the sound in so well that I always hand call it so I don’t blow them out of there with too much volume. A couple minutes of calling and I catch movement REALLY close. I hadn’t been able to see the bottom of the ditch and as coyotes will often do she used the cover to get within 40 yards be fore I saw her. When you’re in their ‘safe zone’ they often don’t spook that bad and I was able to stop her at about 50 yards and make the shot. A pretty nice pelt that won’t make it to a stretcher because the fur market is still morbid. Enjoy.IMG_6221.jpeg

Yup, have had coyote pop out like that and not flinch, easy shots if you dont move to fast.
Killed a lot so far with great coats and like there, not worth a cent, cept ears for bounty.

What cartridge did you shoot her with?

I was in SW Tennessee last week ( trying) to deer hunt. Our deer herd is really thin this year.
I had a 30 Nosler shooting 185 Hybrid at 3290 muzzle velocity. No these pelts weren't worth much after such a massive impact at 100 and 70 yards.20241123_091046~2.jpg20241126_153011~2.jpg

I was carrying one of my .22 Creedmoors. It’s wide open prairie for the most part around here so the bigger case will get it done at the longer ranges. I shot another one this morning in a prairie dog town at 465 yards.
