I’m doing a road trip that started up on the high line in Montana and I’ve made it to south Dakota. The Pine Ridge area has a mix of wide open prairie and some deep ravines full of pines. One of those is a stand that I’ve called dozens of time over the last 30 years. It holds the sound in so well that I always hand call it so I don’t blow them out of there with too much volume. A couple minutes of calling and I catch movement REALLY close. I hadn’t been able to see the bottom of the ditch and as coyotes will often do she used the cover to get within 40 yards be fore I saw her. When you’re in their ‘safe zone’ they often don’t spook that bad and I was able to stop her at about 50 yards and make the shot. A pretty nice pelt that won’t make it to a stretcher because the fur market is still morbid. Enjoy.
