Although not as high-tech as a long-range rifle, my latest edition to the safe is a rebarreled Ruger #1 in .375 Winchester (mini-45/70). The intended purpose is whitetail in heavy cover and elk in the black timber. Mild recoil, about like a 35Rem and you can eat right up to the bullet hole
With a compressed load of RL7, I cannot fit enough powder into the case to show pressure signs in the #1 action. One load that I just tested clocked 2230fps w/8ES for 5 shots and a 2.06" group @ 200yds (though I will likely never shoot much beyond 75yds for deer). That was the Hornady 220gr booolit, strictly for deer/bear.
With a .379" hard-cast, heat-treated booolit (22 Bhn) that weighs 282gr, it will shoot 1930fps into 1-1/2" pretty much all day long and that is more practical accuracy than I will ever need . Cannot imagine that any elk that ever walked will be able to stop that bullet within 50yds or so.
