You shouldn't have any accuracy problems with loads tailored to the barrel. Remington XP100s in 7/08 shot brilliantly with 15" barrels with 1-9.5" twist. Look up loading info for them and you should get an idea of velocities. 150 grain bullets ran 2,400-2,500 fps in those barrels. You would probably gain roughly around 100-150 fps with 18 to 20 inch barrel. Perhaps more.Anyone have any experience with a 7mm08 with a 18 or 20 inch barrel. Typically i see 24 inch barrels on 7mm stuff so not sure
Also was thinking of 8 twist to shoot heavy bullets.
Accuracy issues with short barrel in 7mm08?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
I shoot a 7-08 with a 22” barrel. This rifle is 28 years old. I had it rebarreled 3 years ago to the 22. For the first 25 it was a 20” #5 Lilja 10 twist. It’s still a #5 Lilja 10 twist but a 22 now. I have always shot 140 class bullets. 7.5 lbs. with scope. It’s my favorite, and the best handling rifle I own.I shoot a 20" 7-08 AI.
A 7-08 is not big enough for heavy bullets. I wouldn't shoot over a 150 and it shoots fine out of a 1-10. Absolutely no need for a 1-8.
