Shooting with a chemo port on shoulder

Has anybody ever done this or heard of it? Friend of a friend so hes my friend shoots ftr and wants to hear any advice on how to go about it- maybe a pad or something.
Had one in for several months in 2010. Doctor said nothing larger than ,22 rimfire and he was hesitant on that. Stuck to rimfire and air rifle.

Blood clotting at the port can be a major complication. Blood thinners will make him bruise easier which can potentially cause clotting if near the port.
My dad died in August. A clotted chemo port and subsequent thinners were factors in him not making it. I'd definitely talk to the dr. first.

Shoot off the other shoulder. My best friend recently finished treatment but while he had the central line in, anytime it'd get futzed with he'd get an infection. Probably best to not futz with it or lead sled it so he doesn't have to deal with recoil.

I had mine put in the left side as well and shot whatever I wanted. I didn't leave it in any longer than I had to as it always bothered me for some reason. If he's up to it, I think he could complain about it and say that it is bothering him and get them to move it but that may not be an option at this point either. Good luck man.

My sister had one and had to have it replaced because it got infected. Other than Something going wrong like that I doubt they would move one for you and it’s not worth the risk of complications shooting on the same side. I’d say try shooting on the other side like some have said. I did that for awhile because of vision issues and it went better than I expected.

I’m right handed and had my port placed in my left chest. It’s been there for two and a half years and I’ve been shooting highpower and trap all along with no issues and no plans to stop.

I actually shot a state highpower championship two weeks after I had it placed with no issues.

Almost the same issue. I have a Pace Maker and Difibrilator implanted. I'm left handed and they usually go on top of your left pectoral muscle. I asked if it could go on top of the right pectoral. The Dr. said that's an interesting question and wanted to know why. After he heard the explanation of I'm a shooter and spend a lot of time with a rifle against my left shoulder he agreed. So it's been there for 7 years. Doesn't interfere with my shooting.

I know it's not the same, but I have a very close friend who switched to shooting rimfire because of a port. He seemed to enjoy it, so I bought a nice Anschutz to shoot with him. After a few times at the range, I have learned to enjoy shooting the rimfire, especially with these 84 year old shoulders.

The groups are not as consistent as center fire because even the best rimfire can produce a flyer, but when you take that in account, and realize it is not you but the ammo, it is very satisfying.

When I had my port placed I ask it to be put in Left side because I shoot right handed. The surgeon said it would be fine in the right shoulder and not affect my shooting as it was more difficult to place in the left shoulder. That was 2016 and I still have it in. I don’t shoot a whole lot but it’s never been an issue

My port was just under my collar bone on the left side just above my pectoral. I never asked and my doctor never mentioned anything about shooting. We did discuss not using the shoulder strap while driving because it lays directly over the port. He said, "Toss up. Get thrown out of the car and die; have the shoulder strap rupture the port connection and bleed out and die. Tough choice."

The port I had went directly into the Superior Vena Cava. If torn out, bleed out would only take a minute or two. They took it out after the second year cancer free. Praise God.
