Shooting with a chemo port on shoulder

They placed it on his shoulder? Should be more medial over his pec. I wouldn’t be concerned that he would damage the port but I would be very concerned that it would disconnect the catheter from the port itself. I’m a surgical assistant, Dusty.

I went to the range a couple times during my chemo but due to a clotting issue after biopsy I was unable to have the port. The blood thinners made recoil worrisome but didn't have any problems.
Just not sure I would shoot with a port in the shoulder. I know for sure I'd check with my doctor before taking advice from a forum.
Edit: advice except from guys like @Hntndad

With a little foresight, they would have used his sub-clavicle opposite his shooting shoulder and he would have Zero worries. Keeping your mental health up by continuing to focus on doing the things you love is just as important as that chemo...imho.
You understand. And you dont know how much we appreciate your advice and experience. We want him to be able to shoot like he loves to. So is it easy to move?

I had a port for a year. Thinking ahead, when they told me I needed one for chemo. I told them to put it on the left side, as I am right handed. And the ports are actually medial under the collar bone and above the pectorial muscle. Not actually on the shoulder. Samuel Hall

My son would come over (50 miles), pack my shooting gear and then haul me 30 miles to the range. Once there he set up the targets and helped with my gear. I think, as much as I love shooting, what he was doing helped my attitude and mental health more than anything else.

Oh my, I’ll send the pm as requested. This is going to brighten his day like no other. Thanks so much. Can’t imagine what must go through ones mind in these situations. I know one Dr says no and the other Dr mentions the possibility of the pad deal. Thanks so much. Bill

I am right handed so when I was on chemo I had the port put in my LEFT shoulder . I shot all year, registered trap , at times in 200 bird events, and no problems. Talk it over with the Dr. . I think you need a positive outlook right now and as long you’re not shooting an elephant gun why not?
