Shooting stool

I went to a local music store for a drummers throne.
While you may or may not be interested in trying out the drum sets, they have no issue with you sitting on & adjusting the stools.
I picked up a sturdy one that meets my needs for $75 IIRC.

My only complaint is that it's a carriage bolt with wing nut for the height adjustment. Not the fastest/easiest way to adjust the height.

I have an office chair that I took the back rest off,it has vertical adjustments and the five point base to the ground gives good stability, could not ask for more, has not tipped over in the last three years at least since I started using it.Observing others in our club with various chairs, none ar any better, We have another member with the same arrangement, his is as good as mine. The best part is apart that they work, they cost nothing as they were scrapped because they a bit out of style and slightly blemished.

For a real Shooting Stool, go to Bownells website and entire key word "stools". The hydraulic stool has a stable base and is well made. Mine is 25 years old and has been well abused and sat on by some real porkers. Just over 100.00.

I have an adjustable pneumatic stool that adjusts from 14" to 23" off Ebay, I believe when I bought it a few years ago it was about $30 to$40.

"I’m so sick of shooting off the shitty chairs, benches and cinder block makeshift stools we have at our club. "

Tightwad here. When I shoot off the bench I use an invalid shower seat found at the county dumpster. Wide range of adjustment, comfortable, lightweight and easy to throw in the back of the vehicle after everything else is loaded.

I’m so sick of shooting off the shitty chairs, benches and cinder block makeshift stools we have at our club. We are finally ready to break down and buy a stool we can travel to the club with for benchrest shooting. Is there a “chair / stool of choice”?
Also, what is the proper adjustable height range for a shooting stool?

Whatever works. My problem is we don’t shoot from the bench much but when we do we don’t have anything that works worth a shit. Lol.

This is the one you want.... Gibraltar/Softy-Drum-Throne just do a search for it and buy it from your choice of vendors. Should be in the $150-$175 range. As good of money you'll ever spend. The mind can only function as well as the a$$ can endure. And you have to keep focused when shooting. ;) ;)

Buy it where you can. I have one that is still in perfect condition after 15 years or more of benchrest shooting. JME. WD
That’s the type of answer and testament I was looking for. Going to look online now. I can justify up to $200 but anymore I’d have to be a combination between Tony Boyer and Neil Peart (RIP).

At 20-28” adjustable, does that seat meet the needs of most benches? I’m not sure what the height of most shooting benches are.

Larry Scott who sells jewel triggers on this site sells a excellent benchrest stool. I have one and love it.

About two years ago I asked this exact question on this forum and was pointed to this Gibraltar 9608 drummers throne, I paid just a tad over $100 from Amazon at the time and absolutely love using it. I use it almost weekly during the warm months and it is holding up quite well. I am very satisfied with the quality and believe it is well worth the money.

Does yours have hydraulics to adjust height? Or just spin the seat up and down?
