Shooters World Powders

Here's a pic of some Shooters World Precision / Lovex SO62-02. Note the different size in powder kernels. It's the only extruded powder I've ever had real trouble with in an V2 autothrow. The long kernels will bind it up worse than IMR 4064, yet the small kerenels will leak out the side. Same behavior (but not as severe) in a manual RCBS uniflow.

Maybe it's a blend.

I did an initial ten round test of SW Precision in my 223 wylde chambered, 20" AR15 (criterion barrel/BCM bolt) yesterday. I was shooting Sierra 69gr Matchking bullets for the test.

Accuracy: Using 25gr of SWP in Lake City cases with CCI 41 primers, the load grouped slighty tighter (.75") than my typical Varget load of 24.7gr in Lake City cases with CCI 41 primers (.9"). I am using an old mil-dot scope, so my groups are larger than they should be.

Powder flow thru RCBS Chargemaster-Lite: The SWP came out to 25gr on the dot every time, ten times. I also loaded 24.7gr 15 times, again on the dot. Varget had to be re-dispensed an average of 1 in 5 times. There are some funny shaped kernels, but for some reason that did not have any negative effects on the chargemaster-lite. 25 grains of SWP was slightly less compressed than 24.7 of Varget (not using a long drop tube, just dropping it in with a short funnel). SWP kernels appear to have a smaller diameter than Varget.

Standard Deviation: The first five rounds had an SD of 16.2 (not bad for LC cases), and the second group of five rounds had an SD of 17. Varget five round groups gave me an SD of 20.9 and 15.5.

Velocity: The first five round average with SWP was 2809, the second was 2835 (@ 25 grains). I need to do more testing to ensure this wasn't a weird anomaly. The Varget load was very consistent 2857fps and 2858 in two different 20" 223 wylde Criterion barrels...that is very consistent. Per grain, SWP averaged 113.44fps, while Varget averaged 115.7fps. This is in line with many reviews I have seen

Temperature Sensitivity was not tested this go around, maybe on another trip to the range I will work that aspect.

Is SW Precision a Varget killer? No, but it sure seems like a viable alternative right now given that Varget is made of unobtanium.

Going to start this thread back up. I read some good info in this thread.

Doing some wildcat load work up using SW Match.

224 Predator (aka 224 Grendel) is getting some load tests for a gas predator rifle.. 80gr AMax is very promising. Shooting .4 MOA so far.

Haven't chronographed anything yet. 22" 1:6.5, 3R, rifle+2 gas barrel.

Precision, Tactical, Long Rifle, S4350 in the lineup for the Predator, Valkyrie, 22-250, & 7-08.

The only SW/Lovex powder I have tested (3 lbs worth) has been
Precision Rifle. The claim on this powder was it was real close to
Varget. I don't shoot Varget, so no direct comparison can be made.
But I will say this......When PR comes available again, I'm buying more
then 3 lbs.....

Ive had very good results with PR, better than Varget. I've also had good results with Match Rifle, Long Rifle, and Clean Shot. These powders also have a flash suppressant in them although Ive never paid attention to that in the low light hunting fields

I just completed load testing with one of my .223's with SW Match Rifle and 53vmax, will chrono in the next week or two. I also started in another. 223 of mine the 5 shot test showed vertical of 5/8" at 100 yards and of course worse at 300. I halted on that barrel for now simply because I was more interested in completing the other first.I have tested over numerous days and my target and load has been repeatable. My node window is a grain wide, pressure is moderate. My target is showing pretty consistent .3 3 shot groups off of Harris bipod and squeeze bag. I know how I shoot and I'm confident that 5 shot groups will be in that area. I feel this way because my 5 shot 300 yard groups back this up. This ball powder is probably the best I've used with my limited experience in ball powders. I'm quite happy for sure. By the way this is LC brass, a collection of '10, '18, '19 being shot combined. Between the 3 the H2O is minimal and I'm not looking for Benchrest Accuracy or I'd be shooting Lapua and sorting it instead of range pick ups. Plenty good enough for banging pdogs.

Laughed at this thread years ago. People maybe using Reloader 15 were complaining the kernels were of different sizes. Precision and Reloader 15 are the same structure - all over the map. Why the love for Reloader 15 and hate for Precision is curious.

I have been using Match and Precision in my ^mm BRA's and lots of Precision in my Dashers. In fact, that is about all I use any more in two of my br rifles. Now granted I am seriously ramping down my br shooting but when I do play it is with those Shooters World/Lovex powders.

Now STOP talking about them. You might build a demand for the stuff and then it will both go up in price (which it already has) and be even more unobtainable. SHHHH.

I worked up a load for my newly acquired 6BR using SW Match Rifle. Bench shooting had the load right around 1/2 MOA. This last week I decided to mount a set of irons and shoot the 300m course of fire with it. For those unfamiliar, the course of fire is 60 shots plus unlimited sighters in a single 70 minute block on the NRA C-3 target (10 ring measures 3.6"). I'm very happy with how the rifle and load performed. Under better conditions with better lighting and less wind I'm confident the score would have been better.
