Shipping Dispute

Have you ever listed something for sale, had a bad feeling about the buyer but made the deal anyway.

Here's my story and I am not listing names. I listed a piece of gear for sale. I then lowered the price, when it didn't sell quickly. I received an offer that was below my new price. I sent a counter offer halfway between the asking price and his offer. He held to his offer and I decided, since I already had purchased a new and improved piece of the same equipment, I would accept.

The Shipping cost was twice what I expected so I called him and suggested that he might consider adding half the shipping costs so that I did not lose more than I expected. He agreed that was fair.

I carefully packed the device and sent it off. There three attachments included, and they were wrapped separately and added to the package.

Upon arrival, I receive a telephone call from the guy, stating the two of the pieces were missing from the sealed box telling me we could call it even on the shipping charges since he would need to go out and buy them so he would not be sending additional funds.

I searched my house for the missing pieces and I am confident they are not here. I specifically remember packing the package and placing them into the box and sealing it.

The reason I am posting this is I want him to know that I know he acted without honor. The lose of a few dollars really means nothing to me. I am comfortable in that way. But I deal with everyone in an honorable way and am proud of the stellar reputation I have. While this guy may sit a smirk about the few piddling dollars he saved, he has to know that he is both a liar and a thief.

Ultimately the fault is mine. I am too trusty of people but I hope that never changes. 99.9% of the folks on this forum are true to their word and it is their bond. I can put up with the .01 %.

My ramp is now ended

We ran into stuff like this when shipping brand new builds complete with DBMs to clients. We'd get a call when it was picked up and examined telling us that the mags obviously didn't ship. At $50 - $80 per mag it didn't take long to add up into a sizeable amount of money.:(

The solution was to use a cheap digital camera to make a few photos of each interior completed case and the final sealed case. These were sent to the client when the case was shipped so they would have the pictures before the case arrived. There were several receiving FFLs caught by surprise when the photos were shown to them after their claim of missing parts, much to their chagrin.

We finally posted our solution on the website so that everyone was apprised of what we were doing. Missing parts pretty much ceased to happen from then on. ;):)

How old are you? That sounds like something I would do (not clearly remember if I put them in the box).

I am 83 years old but am very active do several miles a day on my treadmill and can sometimes forget somethings, but I have never forgot something I had a clear picture of in my mind. It's like instant replay. I see myself packing each piece and exactly where I put it in the box. If I didn't pack it, it would still be on my packing table in the basement.

To some people their honor, integrity and word mean absolutely nothing but whine like a puppy if they feel they were shorted by .15 cents.

Hadn't sold anything on Gunbroker for about 2 yrs and having finally decided I need to start liquidating I have listed some items on there. I list them at pretty much my bottom dollar with no reserve price or that crap. I absolutely cannot believe some of the 'offers' I have gotten. I mean like 30% less than my starting price. They know it is a ridiculous offer but think you are desperate and need to sell! If it doesn't sell the first listing they then send an email with something like "see, told you it was too high"! They'd screw you out of your last dollar than brag to their friends or on the net about the great deal they got. Kinda like posting 'nice snag' when someone gets something for less than it is truly worth.

As my brother who has been in the commercial refrigeration and restaurant business says 'people suck'!

There are some on this board who feel they are entitled
to buy your ASNIB stuff for 1/2 price. If you sell to them
they will either use it and resell it later for profit, or post it on another board and sell it for a profit. When you get ready to post an item, look up at the vultures circling. LDS

Thank You for being the honorable man that you are. There are still some of us left! Yeah, some people suck. Some groups seem to be more honorable than others. Farmers and competitive shooters seem to be at the top. Sadly dishonesty is creeping into those groups too.

I'm probably another thats too trusting. When I sell on the forums that I hang out on I regularly ship before receiving funds. No doubt I'll get burned someday.

I read what he said and he also said "I searched my house for the missing pieces". I forget things all the time, and I'm only 64.

Maybe you need some new glasses. Read the entire submission and then read it again. It is clear and specific. The meaning is I would never forget something I could recall a sight picture in my mind. Also I am 83 years old not 64.

I do the same. But, if it's a big ticket item or any firearm, I ensure the payment is made/in escrow.

Somewhat along the lines of this thread.
I did an FFL transfer a few months ago through a local FFL [i.e., not a store].
In addition to the FFL transfer charge, he charged me for 'taxes' that he would have to pay. At the time I thought that was odd. Only after getting home I remembered transfers done through stores didn't collect taxes.

I, of course, will never do anything with this guy again. If he wanted more for his transfer, fine. But don't lie about 'taxes'.

I've had many calls from different people wanting to buy our home - not on the market - but in a great neighborhood where prices are quietly climbing. I've had 3 (my wife had 1) that began with something like "I know this is totally random" then "oh sh1t, I'm sorry, I almost hit a dog/cat" then they go into their pitch. I know it's a tactic to make one think they must be nice. I now just say "oh, I'm so glad you're okay" and hang up. It's a terrible thing that many people seem to have no scruples anymore.
