Shipping cost question

So I was looking at an unprofiled 21" barrel blank and I noticed the supplier was adding $32 for USPS ground. I know shipping costs have gone up but that seems pretty high to me.

Just wondering if that's about right these days or not?

It's too high, but unless you can find somebody with the same item for a better deal, you might be stuck. Shippers get significant discounts with commercial accounts. Like 50% off or more, vs. we schmoes who send one thing every once in a while.

What it is specifically that you want to buy? Maybe one of us will have a better source for you...

UPS has changed. Must use an FFL. now.

"Shipments containing Firearm Products are accepted for transportation only from shippers who are federally licensed and have an approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products."

Yes, Weight and shape make a difference. My shipping costs went up over the years. What used to cost me to ship a 8 lb package Fedex to the west cost was $12.00. Now it costs me $30+. It also depends on if it is town or rural area. That will kick it up too.

Just another way to get into your back pocket!!!

And if the person sending what you want has to pay to ship? It WILL be passed on to the customer. No use THEM taking it in the shorts. ;)

OK, if that's the standard now then I think it's ridiculous but I don't expect the shipper to eat the cost, either. I just thought it sounded high but it's been awhile since I ordered anything so that's why I asked here.

Thanks for the replies.

My cost USPS right now to ship a single barrel is $19.34 ($23.55 retail if you walked into USPS) with UPS $16.88 ($33.36 retail). Prices based on shipping from AZ to OR. Anything 22” and over gets a surcharge and it would be hard to pack a 21” barrel and expect it to stay in the box at less than 23” or so.

Shipping went up astronomically this past year or so and FedEx was the worst for me. They are all backtracking and costs are coming back down, a little. Like everything else we likely won’t see them come back to what they were before.

12-13 bucks from TX to NC about a month ago using UPS. That was in a 3” tube. It would have been cheaper if it was just a barrel sleeve.

Lots of retailers ship for a flat $10, $20 wouldn’t be crazy. $32 is gouging.

Avoid the post office for heavy items, and avoid UPS stores altogether.

Around my neck of the woods, USPS is always the cheapest. Also, it's an irregular shape, so shipping costs are usually higher.

Oh, for when you could take a long(24'+) triangle shaped package to the post office, and they couldn't figure the size and would just put a 9.95 postage on it.
