Setting back shoulders

Hi,

Does anyone have experience setting back the shoulders on 6BR brass? Anything I should keep in mind or watch for? I am working on a wildcat based on the 6BR case and need to shorten it a bit. I want to avoid donuts as this is a pain to remove without marring the inside of the necks...

When you push a shoulder back, the brass that was in the top of the shoulder is pushed into the bottom of the neck, forming a doughnut.....basic stuff. The same thing happens when you neck up a case. In your case, leave the expanding mandrel in the neck for a ten count and then turn it right away.

Boyd,
I’m guessing Jim may have figured it out by now since this post is 19 years old lol

Yea , I figured as much. I've never talked to him on the phone but we have P M ed and I enjoy talking with him. He complimented my new rifle and the first 5-shot group blowing out brass yesterday. He seems like a fine fellow. Bill
