Sendero 7mag for Long Range

Pyscodog

I acquired a as new Sendero 7 mag and want to use it for long range shooting. I think the twist is 1/9.25. I plan on starting out with a 162 grain A-Max bullet but haven't decided on a powder/primer combo yet. Is the 7 mag up for the challenge or did I make a wrong choice? Also any powder/bullet recommendations other than the A-Max? Just getting my feet wet in the LR game as I usually chase wiley coyotee and such.

That's a lot of cartridge for Yotes! Use the A-Max with Reloader 22 and a Federal 215M match primer in, what I prefer, a Norma case. Don't plan on selling the hides! ;D

You would be hard pressed to tell me its not a good choice or up to the challenge!!

Thats a Box Stock 7mmRem Mag Sendero shooting 162gr A-Max's at 2973Fps with 4.5X14 Leopold Scope in the pictures. Its a hammer. Its taken Coyotes, Deer, Jack Rabbits, Badgers, skunks, Priarie dogs, and one Grouse. I am going to cry when that barrel finally gives up. ( have another ready though)

The Sendero diffently won't be a yote rig although I have killed a coyote with the 7 mag years ago. Bullet strike was on the tip of the nose as he faced me. It was not pretty!! The rifle will be mainly a paper puncher for my entry into the long range game. I've always had a fondness for the 7 mag and been eyeing this one since April. Yesterday, the dealer was in the mood to deal and the Sendero came home with me.

I shoot a .284 Win but I have had very accurate predictions using the 180 Berger Target Hybrid burning H4831sc. Some bullets I've tested take a little tinkering to get correct even with accurate inputs from weather stations and chronos - the BC, chrono velocity, or whatever it takes to match real results.

The 7 RM is definitely enough and the Sendero is definitely fine enough a rifle to shoot long range. It may take some tuning on resizing to get the most out of your rifle which bothers some but is not at all hard to do.

Well I couldn't get the A-Max's locally but did get some 162 BTHP Match. Figure I'll give them a shot, no pun intended.

I use 4831SC as well. You might want to start there with those 162's. Intrested to see how they turn out for you and what you think of them once you get them loaded up.

Here is a pic of My Sendero who just got a face lift a few weeks ago with a new Stock. Feels much better now.

I like your rifle. Mines a stock rifle for now. Get it shooting and then do some mods. I'm sure the trigger will be the first!

A little update. I loaded up the Hornady 162 BTHP match just kissing the lands. Fired Winny brass full length resizes, but not trimmed. Basically no brass work up at all. Primed with 210M primers, didn't remember the 215's and 61 grains of Reloader 22. Two shots to zero scope and shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards that was a .120!!! 4 shots at 200 was a .880. My trigger has to be around twenty pounds but crisp! Really needs trigger work. I feel as though I have a shooter!!! Thanks guys!

Nodak7mm- I like your shooter also. I didn't know they made the Sendero with a laminate stock until the other day when I was brousing Gunbroker. Nice!! Just noticed your break and barrel, those don't look to Remington factory!!

Pysodog,

I think the stock on it is the only remaining "stock" item... ;D It began life as a BDL SS with the black/grey stock. Factory tube was way too tempermental to reach out to the distances I wanted to visit.

Action trued, brake design & metal work by Wald Precision. In fact it was Rtheurer who turned me on to Wald Precision. Anyways, 27" #5 Brux with interuptted fluting is the tube. On top is a Leupy 6.5-20 LR.. Barrel and rig shoot scarey accurate for me. You may have heard of "Beanfield" rifles, well this is a "Shelterbelt" rig.... ;)

Another question, My first loads were with Fed. 210 Match primers. Do I need to use the 215's or will the 210's work OK? My firsts loads with the 210 primer were excellent. Also, I have Winchester and Remington brass both. I usually never shoot mixed brass, so of the two, is there a preference? I also picked up a box of 168 grain Nosler Custom Comp. bullets. Have you guys had any luck with these? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get it right.

The 162 Amax is a fantastic long range bullet and economic to boot. Seated .010 off the lands, 69.5 gr H-1000, Fed gm210 primer, win brass. Good for a 1K on deer.
