Seeking First Hand Knowledge Eastern OK and Western AR

Looking for some input from those who live in the Eastern Oklahoma, Tulsa corner and Western Arkansas , Fort Smith and around. For the last 35 years we had hoped to retire to the Oregon Coast, where I grew up, but the political climate has impacted that dream. Recently retired (11/30) and looking for a place to call home. Wanting to have some acreage, medium size home, shop, small town atmosphere, safe environment, good medical, not too hot or cold, no seasonal excessive storms and not too far from F-Class competitions (Medium and Long Range).

Having never been to this part of the country, I only know what we hear on the news and weather channel and of course what hear on the internet. Not the same or as reliable as being/living there.

Would appreciate any information from those who have first hand experience. If you like PM me and we can talk.

Thanks very much for your input.
Patrick

My wife and I have been looking at OK for retirement for a couple of years now. We've kinda settled on the area between the two blue lines.....far enough west to not be as humid.....and far enough east not to be too windy. The family farm LLC has started moving assets from NE to OK. We sold my great aunt's and grandparent's homes in NE and bought hay pasture outside of Panama OK. Beautiful area and tons of deer and hogs.

This part might be a problem.

There are a lot of F Class shooters around here. There are 600 yd matches in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, & Memphis. There are 1000 yd matches in Shreveport, LA. There used to be 1000 yd matches at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, but I don't think they are having them anymore.

80 years ago everyone in Oklahoma packed up and moved to the west coast. Now they want to move back. The west coast changed. Oklahoma not so much. I lived there for years. I found a better place.
“Sweet Home Alabama”.

Looks like you've set your eyes on the "Cherokee Strip" of eastern Oklahoma! A very peaceful place. I lived in OK for 2.5 years, and liked it...all at East Bennet Hall, Oklahoma State University. (Maybe you noticed the OSU cowpokes put down OU just a while back! A long time coming.) I grew up in Benton County, AR; far NW corner. A really great place for me as a youngster, lots of good memories; but Walmart ruined it. Would not go back to live there, just to visit old haunts. I could handle the gentle, rolling hills of the Cherokee Strip, though. But, too old to homestead. Like others, I'm sayin" "Sweet Home Alabama"...but that's only for the part north of the Tennesse River, mind you!

I live 30 minutes from Fort Smith. There’s a 300yd Fclass match in Fort Smith ever 4th Saturday. Tulsa 3 hours, Shreveport 5 hours, Houston 8 1/2. A LOT of good shooters in the area.

I am familiar with Bennet since I was at Willham South for a couple years.

I watched a guy sing and play guitar on the back of a flat bed trailer in front of Bennett Hall one night, no one really knew of him, but his name was Garth Brooks.

Go Pokes!
