Recommondations for Oregon Retirement Location

I think the part of Oregon you're looking for is in the East/North East corner. Some people call it Idaho. Then again if you were one of the ones in WA when I lived there for 16 years that kept voting yes to every property tax increase for every reason under the sun, maybe you should look at Portland. I'd hate to ruin the place I'm talking about!

That would not be me. Now if the vote were for those politicians to balance their budget and quit lining their pockets, I might go for it.

Down here in Klamath County, it's gonna freeze tonight. Wages are low, and crime is high. Water is in short supply, but there's no end of meth and marijuana. Our winters aren't too bad, but spring is a bitch. Right now it's in the forties - forty five degrees, at forty miles an hour.:rolleyes: I just had to come inside cause my lips and eye lids were flapping too much.

I've been here all my life, and love it. Most of us live well into our sixties, and don't much worry about retirement. :p jd

Spent four years at Oregon Institute of Technology. Very familiar with the weather there. I can see where water may become an issue depending on where you live.

Looks like the rest of the week the weather should be much warmer. Still in the 40s at night, but 70s during the day.
I was a little shocked by the prices of real estate in the area.

I lived in Chiloquin for a couple years. Lots of hunting and places to shoot. When I was there the "road" I lived on had few homes with 20 acer lots, when I left there was quite a few more on 10 acre lots with recent migrants from California trying to subdivide to 5 acre lots. I suspect that whole area is now 5 acre with a lot higher property cost. OIT wasn't far, then 20-40 more minutes down was Klamathfalls.

I lived in portland went to osu. Brothers and sister still there. I’d never live there again to liberal and to many wierdos in portland. No sales tax but property taxes way high. The politic are controlled by the western part of state just like here in Colorado is controled by the east slope. If you like to shoot you’d be better off moving to eastern Oregon. Baker city is nice. At least you’d be along ways from the freaks in Portland

Well hello, i graduated in '78, when did you graduate? My class was the last to receive a Bachelor of Technology, in fact my class was given a choice of a BT or BS degree.

Heck, you and I were there at the same time. I was in Machine Tech in 75-76. Dropped out just short of my associates degree. Went to Alaska for a season, and never finished my degree. We may have shared classes. jd

We've still got cause to be ranked pretty high in the murder department. :( Just the other day, a kid killed his mama with a hatchet. Gave his dad a couple chops too, and then his little brother stabbed him and put an end to the attack.

I'm pretty sure we've got a high riff-raff per capita ratio. Heck, a lot of us around here have been riffraff at some time or other. I used to be, but I got over it. I wouldn't discourage anyone from locating here, but all this should be taken into consideration. Something about this Klamath Basin has always been like "Da black sheep of da fambily".:rolleyes: jd

@Papa Charlie
I thought to check in and ask how the search going for a retirement location, any decision yet?
I’m heading to MT myself (cold winters) for sure, I’m pondering lately my future part time job of stocking up on firewood!
