SEB Update

The link to TargetShooter (a British online shooting magazine) is:

with a 6min 58sec video report on the new rest in the homepage. There is also a mention and photograph in the newly published March edition of the magazine (112 pages, uses Adobe Flash Player) in Vince Bottomley and Carl Boswell's report on last weekend's British Shooting and Countrymans Show.

I am not a competitive shooter but I'm avid long range prairie dog shooter. I purchased a Farley Compact Top last year thinking it would be a big help acquiring those small targets and various ranges. But found the height adjustment to be somewhat inadequate. I recently got the opportunity to shot off a Seb rest and found it to be a extremely nice piece of enginerring but also lacked the necessary height adjustment needed to be able to adjust from a target at 200 yards and move to one at 1000 yards.

After watching the video of the new prototype rest I'm convinced that the added height adjustment will give us p-dog shooters the rest we've been needing. I also like the top forearm adjustment it will allow us a quick adjustment for the various widths of forearms. As soon as they become available I plan to purchase one.

RJ

AccurateShooter.com unboxing video and review of the new SEB NEO rest is now available in the Daily Bulletin:

The rest is very, very good, with maybe the smoothest joystick movement yet built.

I got my name put on the waiting list today for a new NEO Coaxial. Seb distributor: Ernie Biship ernieemily@ yahoo.com

For you that have ordered the Neo, here some detail pics for your information...

pic1.jpg

The Neo will come with a wood block leveler, an "alignment cord", 4 allen wrenches, a manual sheet, and perhaps a DVD manual.

The wood block leveler is 3" by 2 1/4" with a "cross slot" in the center, so you would be able to set the bubble level (it will be a rectangular precision level) to your needs / according to your rifle stock's width. Or you can glue it yourself if you only use 3" stock, or 2 1/4" stock. A bit of "do it yourself" thing.

You can set the base like this....

conventionalmodesetup.jpg

Or like this....

reversemodesetup.jpg

You CAN choose to operate the joystick & rest top in the same direction, or in reverse motion. It's spesific to the SEB rest, the only one in the market. It can also be used either for right or left handed shooters without any modification (it's mirror image/symmetry between right & left side).

You can choose to set the singe leg in front (on muzzle side), or at rear (shooter's side).

If you set the single leg at rear, the leg screw supposed to be very short, to not interfere with the joystick handle.
I will provide/include the screw option in the package.
I will also make another screw hole on the single leg, further back, so you'd be able to use the rest with the single leg in front, on a short bench top. (what you need is just to place the front screw further back).
Sorry my enlgish is not very well, I hope that you can understand with what I mean...

The alignment cord is made to help the center alignment between the front rest and rear bag, straight to the target.
It can also measure the distance between the ront bag and the rear bag if you put "mark" on the cord. (marking pen or so would work).
Final alignment/setup by your rifle.

It is recommended to put the end top post's stopper in place. No tool is needed, it's just a thumb screw type.

You can make a custom "L" plate to attach your time counter (wacth) and hold it between the post and stopper, for "more organized" setup.
You can aslo attach the counter on the "spare" screw hole on the carriage. (it's a standard metric M8 thread).
You can also attach an ammo holder/tray between the rear leg & screw counter nut, either to the left or right of the rear leg.
The regular seb ammo holder set should work.

You will need to set the coaxial unit (carriage) at the highest position to remove the side plates / or to fill the bags with sand. It would clear the end top posts.

You can also remove/slide off the carriage from the twin columns.

coaxialunit.jpg

If you remove the cover bottom plate, there are two leaf springs under the vertical sliding plate, to accept more weight on the top. (= it has a positive "built in" upward tension).

bottomleafsprings.jpg

You can remove the teflon sheet, if you wish to, such as for cleaning.

pic16.jpg

Tension adjustment can be done very easily, no tool is needed. It's just thumb screw type. It's large enough, knurled, with nylon insert inside for no lash.

tensionscrewsadjustment-notoolneede.jpg

Two handwheels with adjustable "disc brake system" inside.
This that makes the carriage "stop" at desired position, with extra smooth movement & almost no lash.
The idea,...it's similar to the "springs" you find on allen wrench sets. The spring would "bite" (the brake drum) instantly when it is rotated in the same direction and would loose when it is rotated in reverse direction. It works. ;D That's why I said the coaxial unit/carriage alone is "more complex" to make than making a bolt action. All the parts also CNC'ed with exacting tolerances.

Seb, i can see one thing that the rear legs that wide limit the use of the rest near the edge of the bench.Maybe some extra holes inside the ones you have there now. I for one have this problem where you have the rest at the edge of the bench,it would really help........jim

It can be made. But I'm not sure if it would cost effective for you?...for instance the stick costs $ 20, then plus overseas shipping etc?
Where do you come from?
seb.

Ernie is going to get them for me. I can't keep the other tight with finger pressure. I think everyone will want them.

The next production regular seb rest will come with the same spring tension, like the new Neo.
Will also come with collet type joystick assy.
Will also come with new, more user friendly tension adjustment.
Perhaps with the same center shaft diameter (10mm), just the same with the Neo's.

Pricing???
like much but if your accepting NEO preorders you must have $$ in mind

what are we looking at for $$

Here we go...
The retail price of the new NEO rest in the US will be $ 880. plus US shipping.
Please contact the US dealer Ernie Bishop in Wyoming.... ernieemily@yahoo.com

Availibility: sometime in July. Or sooner if everything is going as expected.

Yes it's expensive, but you will get the finest one.

Info:
I made some changes on this rest after consulting with Mike Ratigan a while ago. (He has a prototype unit so we can talk in detail about the needed improvements).
1. The front/side bag is revised, to be legal by the rules.
An "L" shape, up side down "spring plate" is also added on each side tension plate, bolted on the top side of the tension plate and placed between the side bag and the side plate, so when you turn the side tension screws in, this plate will push the side bags in mainly on the bottom area, not on the middle part of the bag like on the prototype units.
2. A spare short leg screw (almost flushed to the top side of the leg) will also be included in the package, so you can use the rest with the "long leg" at rear / on shooter's side, and not interfere with the joystick handle.
This is because sometime you have to shoot on a short bench top.
3. The tension screw will also equipped with counter nut, to lock the tension screw. (no tool is needed to lock it, it's also thumb type-knurled nut)

I will also add a DVD manual in the package, showing the parts/mechanism, its function, how to use the rest, to adjust etc.

The carriage/coaxial body will also be polished, just like the regular SEB rest.

Additional info:
The "gen-2" SEB regular rest (new improved regular rest) will have the same "built in" upward spring tension (to accept more weight on the top), new teflon liner bearings ("Fluro" brand), "collet type" joystick head, and new teflon plate...just like the new NEO rest.
These enhancements make the price $50 higher than before.
Availibility: from May 2010 / next shipment.

Warranty:
As long as you do not dissasembly/make any changes on the coaxial unit, (some people did wrong thing/damage their rest before this), I will give 3 years warranty or more for the NEO and the 'gen2' SEB regular rest.

In addition:
You will see a production NEO rest and the gen2 SEB rest in display at the SuperShoot this 26-29 May, I promise.

All the best,
seb.

It can be done, Jim. But due to the base's design, the extra hole on the "rear" leg (each side) would be just around 1 inch narrower.
This already make your rifle's axis to be around 4 inches only from the side of the bench.
