Scopes for $2500 and under

Vortex Viper HS-LR with XLR reticle. Mine is a 6-24x and is fantastic (informative reticle, but not cluttered) The 4-16x would be fine, but the higher top end is nice to have (Ford/Chevy/Dodge argument all over again). Have used it on M1A's, 300 RUM bolt guns, and 10/22's... adjustments are accurate and holds zero every time.

Only thing I'd change is to cap the elevation turret... no good reason, just personal preference.

Although not cheap, this is one of the best bangs-for-your-buck on the market.

I think it would be hard to beat nightforce at any price. I've got an swfa 5x20 ss hd and like it too. I'd sure like to compare them side by side.

I don't own one, but had the opportunity to use a Leupold Mark 5HD ( 5-25 ) and was VERY impressed with everything.
Glass, turrets and build quality were top notch.
Just the Reticle might not be for everyone.

If I was dropping $ 2,500 bones on a LR scope, I'd have a hard ignoring the 7-35 mk-5HD.

Bushnell XRS-II 4.5-30 is also solid. I have the original XRS and it's a decent scope for the money.

Razor II 4.5-27 is always a safe bet.
