Looking for scope recommendation for modest yardage benchrest use

Since your research has you looking at gear catered to long range/ tactical optics, I have to ask what is your selected build requirements for the rifle?

You familiar with Minox and Steiner? They both make very high end scopes.

Regarding the Weaver XR's I've read a lot of feedback that AO focus control is superior to side focus. And isn't the glass the same as the Classic T's?
No I am not familiar with Minox and Steiner because both of those companies do not make a benchrest scope. I just buy and sell BR stuff. As far as the Weaver T36 vs the 36XR, besides me two of my friends that I shoot against have both bought 3 between them. All three of us think that the side focus parallax adjustment XR is a superior scope in every way over the T36. Don't know if the glass and the coatings are the same or not, but I'm pretty sure the objective lens is smaller in the XR than the T36. I've put both side by side and I prefer the optics on the XR.

I'm dropping in a Tikka T3X Varmint .223 24" into a XLR Envy chassis. Probably going with an Atlas bipod.

For my modest expectations and simple applications my Weaver T24 (sale price $412) works very well. Despite having a tiny exit pupil of 1.7 mm, it works quite well late in the afternoon or on dark cloudy days near legal sunset probably because of better than average glass/coatings. I have the tiny 1/8 dot in mine. Policy requires that every rifle in my safe be used in the field at least 1X per year and the T24 has proven to be a great prairie dog scope provided the prairie dogs are far enough away to be found and more than just fur can be seen. The adjustment range is more than adequate for ranges up to 1/2 mile away on 3000 fps plus rifles; the 1/8 dot provides some indication of range, covering about 1/3 the width of a steel fence post @ 400 yards.

I would get a 12x42 NF benchrest used, it's a tank and it's bulletproof with great glass, the weaver 36xr is a great clear scope not as clear as NF but it will get the job done, I had the 36xr and sold it, wish I had it back
