AR Scope, Fixed or Variable Opinion?

Looking for Optics for 5.56 RRA, Haven't had much experience in the fixed power scope arena. I'll be using the gun primarily for 300-500 yard shots on Targets as well as coyotes and p dogs. Been reading up on some nice fixed power scopes, but I'm not sure if it is going to suit my needs to get out there a little ways on somewhat smaller targets.

US Optics ST-10x option 1
SWFA SS 10x option 2

otherwise I think i'm going to go route i'm used to shooting with of a larger power variable scope (Nightforce, Vortex, etc.)
Anyone with experience shooting fixed power have any pros or cons of shooting fixed power scopes at longer distances. Is it manageable?

I shoot a fixed 6 power swfa on a 16 1/2" barreled encore 243. Took it from 100 to 1030 with that scope hitting steel plates all the way. My bullet wasn't too happy at 1000. Became unstable going trans sonic around 950 but out to 900 I add no problem. I would not hesitate to put a10x on a hunting rifle our an ar for that matter.

The issue you run into with a fixed power scope is that you do not have the ability to lower the power during high mirage conditions preventing you from reducing the mirage effect. Another point is that on P-Dogs past 200 yards your going to be begging for higher power.

This was my concern is that I might be shooting at some smaller targets. Any recommended power for pdogs then out to 400-500 yards. I mean is a 24x overdoing it?

A quality 18X or 24X would be just the ticket for the shooting your doing. Yes 24X is pretty powerful, but you have the power when you need it, kind of like having 400HP in a car, your not going to use all of that power very often, but it is nice to have when you need it.
