Scope-- Weaver 40/44 or Nitrex

Looking at a Weaver 40/44 in a 6.5-20 and a Nitrex in 6-20 X 50--anyone ever use one of these Weaver scopes??

haven't used either one, but the nitrex are supposed to be on the same line as the Weaver "grand slam" from what I have read ( or at least the lower of the Slam series). So they should be a step above the 40/44 series.

I have 2 of the 40/44 on ar-15's and they work good and are fairly clear glass.I might be willing to sell one.

So happens gent shooting at range last weekend uses the Nitrex TR1 6.5-20x50 you are interested in and he is quite enthusiastic about the scope, considers the optics to be very good quality and its price is a real bargain. He has two of them and intends to order a third. Rifle that day with Nitrex was a 300 Winmag. I have two of the Nitrex TR2s. Supposedly same Japanese optics/glass in mine is same used in the TR1. If so, then you'll be very happy with the TR1 glass. Nothing wrong with the 40/44 Weaver line, made in Philippines, decent optics. Shame the 40/44 you are interested in isn't one of the aspherical lens models in the line. Darn clear/bright glass in them. If it was an aspherical lens, then I'd say it was a toss up for optics quality. Recommend the Nitrex....wish I wanted/needed a 50mm lens scope, I'd buy one.
