Scope shade, should I use it or not

yes I agree 100% to what you said, plus I had already made my mind up to do just this. While hunting or better said sitting around I'll do the testing..........thanks again guys another well pleased shooter here

install the tube, then set the rifle in the bags on a bench. now very very carefully reach out and with your thumb and forefinger squeeze the tube toward the stock.. the amount of pressuere that will move your crosshair will surprise you. it might even form your opinion on use.

I take mine off in low light conditions . this seems to help the scope gather light .
The sunshade will make shooting on cloudy, dark days difficult and also difficult early and late in the day. Occasionally the sun can be a major problem but normally only when you have to aim almost directly at it. For big game hunting, I leave mine off. When shooting prairie rats I leave it on and take it off when necessary.

My tower in Georgia faces east along a power line. Each sunny morning, just after sunrise, I NEED one to literally see at all. I keep three different-sized cardboard ones in that tower and always use the factory ones on four rifles I hunt with that have them. Since I mostly use a different rifle for each deer, I use them a lot.

After that morning explosion of direct sunlight I take them off. When walking around it's just more to carry so I never use them on stands in the woods or when "still" hunting.

I have used the ard's with great satisfaction while woodchucking and the shortest sunshade I can get away with depending on conditions. The weight can cause problems with cheap scopes but I personally think they dont do any everlasting damage to the reluctor or the turret springs. In another words they may make the scope flex slightly under recoil but the scope should return to zero everytime. You should recheck your scope's zero while using a shade and not to see if any difference is there.

If this happens, you are either using too long of a shade for the magnification setting on your scope, or you are seeing the light 'noise' that is entering your scope that doesn't belong there.

They also do a great job keeping snow and rain off the objective lens when hunting.

Guys I again have to say thanks for all of your replies.I will add that I wasn't able to get out this weekend,so I have nothing to offer as of now.I hope this coming weekend is better for me and that I am able to give you guys feed back.

I like the idea of the paper shades,I think I'll be making a few in the next couple of days......
